Market ends in red; Nifty hits 6,000 in early trade

The markets were seen consolidating at the higher levels and ended the day in red amid an extremely volatile session. The markets opened strong slipped in red, bounced back again but ended in red. 

 

It opened today on strong note today and the Nifty breached the psychological level of 6,000 reacting to 25 bps cut by US Fed. But have failed to sustain at the higher levels. Sensex was 500 points down from the day's high and Nifty was down 150 points.

 

GSM operators in the telecom were the worst hit in today’s red on news of spectrum allocation to be made more stringent. Auto, FMCG and pharma stocks also dragged the markets.  

Broader markets underperformed the benchmark indices and and ended in red. This gave markets weak breadth.

Top losers on the indices were Relaince, HUL, ITC, Bharti Airtel, MTNL, VSNL Nalco, HCL Tech .

L&T, HDFC Bank, ONGC, Sterlite Ind, Reliance Petroleum, Infosys were among the top gainers on the indices.

Sensex was down 113.64 points or 0.57% at 19724.35, and the Nifty down 34.20 points or 0.58% at 5866.45.

About 1089 shares have advanced, 1900 shares declined, and 71 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,966.54 down 2%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,646.61 down 1.5%.

The BSE Bankex was up 2% at 10,851.69. Bank of India, Oriental Bank, BOB, SBI, IOB, ICICI Bank,  Bank of India moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 2% at 20,141.19. L&T, Jyoti Structures, ABB, BHEL closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,391.37 down 2%. Bharat Forge, Maruti, Escorts, MRF, Cummins, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto closed lower.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 17,582.54 down 2%. Hindalco, Shree Precoated, NALCO, Hind Zinc, Mah Seamless closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,038.20 down 4%. HUL, ITC, United Spirits, Tata Tea, United Brewerie, Colgate, HUL closed lower

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 11,539.84 down 1%. Essar Oil, Reliance, HPCL, GAIL ended in red.

The BSE IT Index was flat at 4,615.44. Mphasis, Patni Computer, Tech Mahindra, I-Flex Solution, TCS closed lower.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 28448.79 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 99734.01 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 11436.95 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 139619.75 crore.

Mkt witnesses volatility: ONGC, L&T, Rel Comm up

The markets have moved in green again after witnessing some trade volatilty. FMCG, IT, telecom and auto stocks are trading weak on the indices. Buying is seen in metal, capital goods and oil & gas counters.

Heavies like ONGC and L&T have surged over 6% supporting the markets. Reliance Communication is up over 4%.

At 13.58 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 98.93 points or 0.50% at 19936.92, and the Nifty up 48.05 points or 0.81% at 5948.70.

About 1239 shares have advanced, 1726 shares declined, and 94 shares are unchanged.

Broader markets have underperformed the benchmark indices and are trading in red. This has given markets weak breadth. BSE midcap index is down nearly 1% and smallcap index is down 0.5%.

The rupee is trading strong at 39.32 against the dollar.

Market witnesses volatility: VSNL, Bharti, HUL slip

The markets are witnessing volatility post a strong start in the morning.  FMCG, IT, telecom and auto stocks are trading weak on the indices. Buying is seen in metal, capital goods and oil & gas counters.

The markets opened today on strong note today and the Nifty breached the psychological level of 6,000 reacting to 25 bps cut by US Fed. But have failed to sustain at the higher levels. Sensex is 400 points down from the day's high.

At 13.00 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 3.76 points or 0.02% at 19841.75, and the Nifty up 29.15 points or 0.49% at 5929.80.

About 1164 shares have advanced, 1808 shares declined, and 87 shares are unchanged.

Broader markets have underperformed the benchmark indices and are trading in red. This has given markets weak breadth. BSE midcap index is down nearly 1% and smallcap index is down 0.5%.

The markets are trading flat and are off day's high on account of some profit booking at the higher levels. FMCG, IT, telecom and auto stocks are trading weak on the indices. Buying is seen in metal, capital goods and oil & gas counters.

The markets opened today on strong note today and the Nifty breached the psychological level of 6,000 reacting to 25 bps cut by US Fed. But have failed to sustain at the higher levels. Sensex is 400 points down from the day's high.

At 12.02 hrs IST, the Sensex is down 70.41 points or 0.35% at 19767.58, and the Nifty down 15.65 points or 0.27% at 5885.00.

About 1229 shares have advanced, 1742 shares declined, and 88 shares are unchanged.

Mkt cheers Fed cut; metal, cap good stocks strong

The markets are holding its gains and are trading strong on account of good amount of buying witnessed in the metal, capital goods and oil & gas counters. However, FMCG and IT and auto stocks were subdued.

The markets opened today on strong note today and the Nifty breached the psychological level of 6,000 in the early trade. Markets have reacted happily after 25 bps cut by US Fed.

At 10.26 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 196.77 points or 0.99% at 20034.76, and the Nifty up 84.90 points or 1.44% at 5985.55. About 1858 shares have advanced, 1110 shares declined, and 91 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Reliance Petro at Rs 263.50 up 7.09%, Sterlite Ind at Rs 1,072.25 up 4.18% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,705.10 up 3.13%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are Bharti Airtel at Rs 960.20 down 4.61%, VSNL at Rs 533 down 4.37% and MTNL at Rs 174.75 down 2.62%. 

Most active shares on NSE are Reliance Petro at Rs 276.90 with 39,788,356 shares, Reliance Natural at Rs 130.70 with 35,688,253 shares and Larsen at Rs 4,570.10 with  596,158 shares.

NIFTY HITS 6000

The markets opened on a very strong note today powered by 25 bps cut by the US Fed. However, the Asian markets were trading mixed today. Nifty took 24 days to cover the gap from 5000 to 6000. Market breadth was strong with over 800 stocks on the advancing side and only 65 stocks on the downside on NSE.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 270 points at 20107 and Nifty was up 103.65 points at 6004. Major gainers in the early trade were Rel Comm, Reliance Energy, Cipla, NTPC. However, Bharti Airtel, Sterlite were among the losers.

Asian markets were trading mixed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.78% or 245.85 points at 31,598.43, Japan's Nikkei surged 0.75% or 126.20 points at 16,863.83, Singapore's Straits Times rose 0.47% or 17.96 points at 3,823.66, However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted fell 0.51% or 49.94 points at 9,661.43. South Korea's Seoul Composite was down 0.35% or 7.16 points at 2,057.69.

US markets: The Dow gained 137.54 points, or 1%, to 13,930.01. The Standard & Poor's 500 index surged 18.36 points, or 1.20%, to 1,549.38, and the Nasdaq composite index rose 42.41 points, or 1.51%, to 2,859.12.

Market cues:

  • FIIs net sell USD 75.2 million in equity on Oct 30
  • MFs net sell Rs 533.6 crore in equity on Oct 30
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 2,589 crore (Rs 25.89 billion) at Rs 83,916 crore (Rs 839.16 billion)

  • Futures Open Interest up by Rs 1,540 crore, Options Open Interest up by Rs 1,048 crore
  • Nifty Fut shed 5 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Open Int Put-Call ratio at 1.16 Vs 1.20

  • Nifty Calls add 6.1 lakh shares in Open Interest
