Market ends with monster gains: Sensex up 900 pts

The markets ended with monster gains on heavy buying in scrips across sectors. Sensex has gained over 900 points and Nifty has scored over a double century and was up over 250 points. It was the biggest single day absolute gain for Sensex. The cues from global markets have been robust with Asia closing higher and Europe opening strong.

Oil & gas, capital good, metal and banking stocks continue to be in the limelight today. Broader markets have also participated in the uptrend but the frontliners outperformed the midcap and smallcap indices. BSE Midcap index was up over 2% and the smallcap index was up over 2.4%.

ICICI Bank surged over 9%, Wipro and Hindalco were up over 7% followed by HDFC, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Rel Petro and PNB.

Sensex was up 893.58 points or 4.69% at 19929.06, and the Nifty up 242.50 points or 4.26% at 5937.90.

About 2135 shares have advanced, 852 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 8,285.63 up 2%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 10,039.38 up 2.4%.

The BSE Bankex was up 7.2%.  Top gainers were HDFC Bank up 11.3%, ICICI Bank up 8.9%, PNB up 9.7% followed by SBI, BOB, HDFC Bank, Union Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Andhra Bank, Bank of India moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1% at 20,386.41. Siemens, Areva T&D, Kirloskar Oil, Bharat Bijlee, Triveni Engg closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,423.10 up 0.6%. Hind Motors, MICO, TVS Motor, Maruti Suzuki, Cummins closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed was up 4.2%. Among the top gainers were Nalco up 13.7%, Hindalco up 7.3%, SAIL up 6% Jindal Steel, JindalStainless, Tata Steel, SAIL, Hind Zinc closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,062.04 up 1.2%.  United Spirits, GlaxoSmith Con, ITC, Dabur India, Marico, ITC, Bata India closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed up 7%. Heavies like Reliance up 7.2%, ONGC up 4.7% followed by Reliance Natura, Essar Oil, Reliance Petro, Petronet LNG ended higher.

The BSE IT Index was at 4,634.64 up 0.4%. Wipro, Satyam, Infosys, Financial Tech, TCS closed higher.

BSE Realty Index was up 3.1%; Unitech up 2.5%, Indiabulls Real up 7.5%.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 20698.46 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 68270.99 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 8791.8 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 97761.25 crore.

Markets surge ahead: Sensex up over 800 pts

The markets have surged ahead and are trading with monster gains on heavy buying in scrips across sectors. Sensex has gained over 800 points and Nifty has scored a double century and was up over 200 points. The cues from global markets have been robust with Asia closing higher and Europe opening strong.

At 14.46 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 832.87 points or 4.38% at 19868.35, and the Nifty up 227.80 points or 4.00% at 5923.20.

About 2170 shares have advanced, 814 shares declined, and 81 shares are unchanged

Top gainers on the Nifty are PNB at Rs 585.10 up 6.64%, Reliance Petroleum at Rs 229.80 up 5.87% and Bharti Airtel at Rs 878 up 5.24%. 

Most active shares on NSE were Reliance Petro at Rs 229.80 with 22,795,495 shares, Reliance at Rs 2,772 with 1,549,154 shares and Reliance Natural at Rs 173.60 with 21,632,196 shares.  

Rupee was quoting at 39.34 against a US dollar. On NSE the advance decline ratio was in favour of advancing side. Over 950 stocks were up and about 150 stocks were declining.   

In the metal sector, major gainers were Jindal Saw at 826 up 10.53%, JSW Steel at 929.05 up 5.19% and Shree Precoated at 327.50 up 4.17%. 

Market trades strong: Bank, oil & gas stocks surge

The markets continue to trade strong on heavy buying in scrips across sectors. Oil & gas, capital good, metal and banking stocks continue to be in the limelight today. Broader markets have also participated in the uptrend but the frontliners have outperformed the midcap and smallcap indices. BSE Midcap index was up over 2% and the smallcap index was up over 2.5%.

At 13.43 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 651.22 points or 3.42% at 19686.70, and the Nifty up 180.35 points or 3.17% at 5875.75.

About 2200 shares have advanced, 781 shares declined, and 84 shares are unchanged.

Among the sector indices Bankex is up 4.7%, oil & gas index up 4%, followed by IT, metal and realty indices each up over 3%.

HUL was trading at Rs 199.50 down 0.45%, Reliance was trading at Rs 2,756.40 up 2.25% , Infosys was trading at Rs 1,681.00 up 3.29%, ITC was trading at Rs 180.50 up 1.23% and HPCL was trading at Rs 254.85 down 1.47%.

Mkts trading firm; PNB, RPL, Bharti top Nifty gainers

The markets are still trading firm and the capital good, metal and banking stocks continue to be in the limelight today. Broader markets have also participated in the uptrend but the frontliners have outperformed the midcap and smallcap indices. BSE Midcap index was up over 2% and the smallcap index was up over 2.5%.

All the BSE indices were trading in green with significant gains. Market breadth is till very strong on both NSE and BSE.

At 12.33 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 674.63 points or 3.54% at 19710.11, and the Nifty up 187.35 points or 3.29% at 5882.75.

About 2192 shares have advanced, 787 shares declined, and 86 shares are unchanged.

Among the sector indices Bankex is up 4.5%, followed by IT, metal, oil & gas and realty indices each up over 3%.

Index pivotals like HDFC Bank were up over 9%, HDFC was up 8% and Bharti Airtel up 5%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are PNB at Rs 585.10 up 6.64%, Reliance Petroleum at Rs 229.80 up 5.87% and Bharti Airtel at Rs 878 up 5.24%. 

Top losers on the Nifty are BPCL at Rs 354.35 down 2.06%, HPCL at Rs 253.30 down 2.05%.

Most active shares on NSE were Reliance Petro at Rs 229.80 with 22,795,495 shares, Reliance at Rs 2,772 with 1,549,154 shares and Reliance Natural at Rs 173.60 with 21,632,196 shares.

Mkts surge on strong global cues; bank, IT, metals up

The markets are trading strong following gap up opening on the back of strong cues from the global markets. All the key BSE indices were trading strong led by banking, metals and IT stocks. Market breadth was extremely strong and the volume impressive.

At 11 am, the Sensex is up 498.42 points or 2.62% at 19533.90, and the Nifty up 143.60 points or 2.52% at 5839. About 2254 shares have advanced, 728 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.

Rupee was quoting at 39.34 against a US dollar. On NSE the advance decline ratio was in favour of advancing side. Over 950 stocks were up and about 150 stocks were declining.   

Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 869.90 up 4.44%, Bharti Airtel at Rs 868.00 up 4.19% and ICICI Bank at Rs 1,222.35 up 3.93%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are HUL at Rs 200.05 down 0.17%. 

BSE IT index was up nearly 3% today and the major gainers were Infosys at 1,684 up 3.47%, TCS at 976.90 up 2.94% and Tech Mahindra at 1,051.70 up 2.49%.  

Most active shares on BSE are Reliance Natural at Rs 174.50 with 3,618,502 shares, Reliance Petro at Rs 223.50 with 1,943,540 shares and Ispat Industries at Rs 46.05 with 6,625,531 shares.  

Mkts open with huge gap up; Infy, ICICI Bank, RCom surge

The markets opened with a huge gap up on account of strong cues from the global markets. Broad based buying was seen in the early trade led by the capital goods, technology, metals and bank stocks.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 568 points at 19604 and Nifty was up 157 points at 5852. Major gainers in the early trade were Rel Comm, Rel Petroleum, Infosys, Bharti, TCS, ICICI Bank, Hindalco, NTPC, RIL, TCS and Wipro.

Asian markets surged today, boosted by a strong rebound on Wall Street overnight. Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 3.41% or 948.36 points at 28,751.71, Japan's Nikkei gained 1.84% or 278.82 points at 15,405.45, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 2.8% or 244.29 points at 8,971.50, Singapore's Straits Times advanced 1.62% or 56.39 points at 3,531.86 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 1.48% or 28.67 points at 1,961.56.

US markets: The Dow rose 319.54 points, or 2.46%, to 13,307.09. The Standard & Poor's 500 index jumped 41.86 points, or 2.91%, to 1,481.04, and the Nasdaq composite index gained 89.52 points, or 3.46%, to 2,673.65.

  • MFs net sell Rs 186 cr in cash market
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 2497 crore at Rs 96,026 crore
