Market ends marginally in red: L&T, Bharti, Bhel rally

The markets ended the week on a flat note with a negative bias after seeing a strong rally during the week. Sensex couldn't touch the 18k mark and is at a shouting distance of 18,000 mark. But on weekly basis Sensex saw good gains of over 2.5%.

Most of the BSE sector indices closed lower, even the broader markets were lacklustre.

Select heavies were like L&T, BHEL, Reliance and Bharti Airtel were supporting the markets at the lower levels. Buying was seen in select capital goods, telecom and oil & gas stocks.Selling pressure is seen in interest rate senstives like auto, bank and realty stocks. Even FMCG and IT stocks are trading at lower levels.

Reliance hit Rs 2,500 mark and Bharti Airtel hit Rs 1000 mark.

On the macroeconomic front, inflation came in higher at 3.42% versus 3.23%.

Power Grid got listed at Rs 85 versus issue price of Rs 52/share, debuting with market cap of Rs 39,000 crore and closed at around Rs 100 levels. 

Sensex was down 3.78 points or 0.02% at 17773.36, and the Nifty down 22.80 points or 0.44% at 5185.85.

About 1071 shares have advanced, 1900 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex were Larsen & BHEL up 6%, ABB up over 3.5%, Bharti up 4% and Reliance Comm up 2%. 

Top losers on the Sensex were NTPC, Tata Motors, ITC, Hindalco, Wipro and TCS. 

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,485.51 down 1.2%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,101.87 down 0.44%.

The BSE Bankex was down 2.5% at 9,177.32. Union Bank, IOB, Kotak Mahindra, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda moved downwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 3% at 15,725.25. L&T,  Reliance Infra, Kirloskar Bros, Greaves Cotton, Jyoti Structure closed higher

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,356.83 down 1%.  Ashok Leyland, Hind Motors, Bharat Forge, Tata Motors, TVS Motor closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 14,122.36 down 2%. JSW Steel, Hindalco, Tata Steel, JindalStainless closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,107.02 down 2%.  Marico, Bata India, ITC, United Spirits, United Brewerie  closed lower

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed up 1% at 10,109.80. Reliance, IOC, BPCL, HPCL ended in red.

The BSE IT Index was down 0.6% at 4,740.27.  Satyam, HCL Tech, Infosys, Patni Computer, Wipro, TCS, Financial Tech closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 20212.79 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 64188.48 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 7756.15 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 92157.42 crore.

Markets on a new high: Reliance hits 2,500

The markets are trading firm on a new high on account of sustained buying seen in index pivotals. Heavies like L&T, BHEL, Reliance and Bharti Airtel are contributing to the uptrend. Buying is seen in capital goods, telecom and oil & gas stocks.Selling pressure is seen in interest rate senstives like auto, bank and realty stocks. Even FMCG and IT stocks are trading at lower levels.

Reliance hit Rs 2,500 mark and Bharti Airtel hit Rs 1000 mark.

At 3.15 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 189.61 points or 1.07% at 17966.75, and the Nifty up 29.10 points or 0.56% at 5237.75.

About 1224 shares have advanced, 1733 shares declined, and 82 shares are unchanged.

But midcap index is trading in trading flat and smallcap is up 0.5%.

On the macroeconomic front, inflation came in higher at 3.42% versus 3.23%.

Market trades in green: Capital goods index up 4%

The markets have gained some ground and are trading in the positive territory. Buying is seen in capital goods, telecom and oil & gas stocks.Selling pressure is seen in interest rate senstives like auto, bank and realty stocks. Even FMCG and IT stocks are trading at lower levels.

At 2:08 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 86.72 points or 0.49% at 17863.86, and the Nifty up 4.90 points or 0.09% at 5213.55.

About 1259 shares have advanced, 1700 shares declined, and 80 shares are unchanged.

Midcap index is trading in trading flat and smallcap is up 0.5%.

Market trades flat: Bank, FMCG, auto stocks drag

The markets are trading flat as profit booking set in at the higher levels. Selling pressure is seen in interest rate senstives like auto, bank and realty stocks. Even FMCG and IT stocks are trading at lower levels. Capital goods and telecom stocks are trading firm.

Midcap index is trading in red down nearly 1% and smallcap is down 0.2%.

At 12.53 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 25.11 points or 0.14% at 17802.25, and the Nifty down 23.75 points or 0.46% at 5184.90.

About 1170 shares have advanced, 1778 shares declined, and 91 shares are unchanged.

On the macroeconomic front, inflation came in higher at 3.42% versus 3.23%.

Power Grid got listed at Rs 85 versus issue price of Rs 52/share, debuting with market cap of Rs 39,000 crore and further moved up at Rs 102. 

Top gainers on the Sensex are Larsen at Rs 3,009 up 3.89%, BHEL at Rs 2,164 up 3.46% and Reliance Comm at Rs 651.30 up 2.65%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are NTPC at Rs 222.50 down 1.72%, Wipro at Rs 455.80 down 1.19% and TCS at Rs 1,065.90 down 1.18%. 

Most active shares on NSE are Power Grid Corp at Rs 101.35 with 217,146,189 shares, Dabur India at Rs 111.85 with 15,332,605 shares and Reliance at Rs 2,455.60 with  405,265 shares.

Mkt trades strong amid volatility; cap goods in focus

The markets have once again picked up momentum and are trading with good  gains. Capital goods, realty, oil & gas and power stocks were in focus. However, auto, FMCG and IT stocks were still under pressure. 

At 11.26 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 123.70 points or 0.70% at 17900.84, and the Nifty up 14.15 points or 0.27% at 5222.80. About 1414 shares have advanced, 1532 shares declined, and 93 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Larsen at Rs 3,009 up 3.89%, BHEL at Rs 2,164 up 3.46% and Reliance Comm at Rs 651.30 up 2.65%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are NTPC at Rs 222.50 down 1.72%, Wipro at Rs 455.80 down 1.19% and TCS at Rs 1,065.90 down 1.18%.

Markets give up early gains; IT, banks drag

The markets have given up most of its early gains as there was heavy selling seen in the banking, IT and consumer durable sectors.

The breadth is slightly negative with 452 stocks on the upside and over 523 stocks on the downside on NSE. Rupee has further strengthened and was quoting at 39.53. Oct Nifty future was trading at 12 points discount at 5197.46.

At 10.47 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 68.79 points or 0.39% at 17845.93, and the Nifty up 10.35 points or 0.20% at 5219. About 1411 shares have advanced, 1532 shares declined, and 96 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,622.10 up 1.65%, SBI at Rs 1,926.85 up 1.39% and Reliance Comm at Rs 642.75 up 1.30%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are Tata Motors at Rs 789.05 down 1.2%, Ambuja Cements at Rs 145.95 down 0.92% and TCS at Rs 1,070.05 down 0.8%. 

Most active shares on NSE are Power Grid Corp at Rs 101.35 with 217,146,189 shares, Dabur India at Rs 111.85 with 15,332,605 shares and Reliance at Rs 2,455.60 with  405,265 shares.  

BSE IT index was trading with over 0.5% cut at 4745.25. Major losers were Infosys, Wipro and Satyam Computers.

Mkts open strong; power, energy stocks up

The markets opened strong today on account of good amount of buying seen in the energy, power and telecom space. Cues from the Asian markets were mixed  and the US markets ended yesterday with modest gains.Power grid lists today on Rs 85 against its issue price of Rs 52.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 82 points at 17858 and Nifty was up 12 points at 5221. Major gainers in the opening trade were Rel Energy, Rel Comm, ONGC, SAIL, NTPC, L&T, Unitech, Tata Steel and SBI.

Asian markets were trading mixed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.33% or 357.90 points at 27,331.88, Singapore's Straits Times gained 0.31% or 11.86 points at 3,795.67. However, Japan's Nikkei was down 0.17% or 28.70 points at 17,063.79, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.30% or 28.68 points at 9,598.71 and South Korea's Seoul Composite declined 0.63% or 12.57 points at 1,991.03.

US markets: The Dow rose 6.26 points, or 0.04%, to 13,974.31, after shooting to a record high Monday and then giving back a large chunk of its gains Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Nifty Open Int Put-Call ratio at 1.35 vs 1.34
  • Nifty Puts add 12.1 lakh shares in Open Interest
  • Nifty Calls add 8.2 lakh shares in Open Interest
