The markets ended near the high point of the day building up on their gains made on Monday. The rally came in despite not so encouraging cues from Asia. Huge buying support was seen from capital goods, metal, oil and power stocks. Midcaps and smallcap indices have outperformed Nifty and Sensex. Sensex was above the 20,100 mark and Nifty above 6050 levels. Buying support in auto, capital goods, metal, power, oil and banking stocks.However, select IT stocks are trading in red.
Top gainers were Hindalco, DLF, SBI, Reliance, Zee Entertainment, Reliance Petroleum and BPCL while losers - Sun Pharma, TCS, ONGC and Wipro.
Most active shares on the bourses are NDTV, Reliance Petroleum, Reliance Energy, Essar Oil and Reliance Industries.
Sensex closed up 338.40 points or 1.70% at 20192.52, and the Nifty up 85.65 points or 1.43% at 6070.75.
About 2386 shares have advanced, 681 shares declined, and 32 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 9,400.86 up 2%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 12,342.49 up 3%.
The BSE Bankex was up 2% at 11,290.08. Kotak Mahindra, IOB, Karnataka Bank, Union Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of India closed in red.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed up 2.2% at 19,654.31. Bharat Bijlee, Carborundum, Crompton Greave, Triveni Engg, Reliance Infra closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,642.90 up 1%. Exide Industrie, Hind Motors, Tata Motors, Escorts, Ashok Leyland closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 19,291.34 up 2.5%. Shree Precoated, Hindalco, Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa closed higher
The BSE FMCG Index closed up 1% at 2,232.84. Nestle, Bata India, Tata Tea, GlaxoSmith Con, ITC ended higher
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 13,115.99 up 3.5%. Essar Oil, HPCL, IOC, BPCL, Reliance ended higher.
The BSE IT Index was at 4,591.87 up 0.2%. I-Flex Solution, Financial Tech, Satyam, Tech Mahindra, Infosys closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 15650.91crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 96144.43 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 7634.31crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 119429.65 crore.
Mkt trades strong: Metal, Oil, Cap Goods, Power gain
The markets have continued its northward journey with hefty gains; Sensex has gained more than 300 points and the Nifty above 75 points. Huge buying support was seen from capital goods, metal, oil and power stocks. Midcaps and small cap indices have outperformed Nifty and Sensex.
At 2:20 pm, the Sensex was up 304 points at 20,158 304 and the Nifty up 83 points at 6,068. The BSE Midcap and Small Cap gained around 2%-3%.
The market breadth is positive; about 2425 shares have advanced, 633 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers were Hindalco, DLF, SBI, Reliance, Zee Entertainment, Reliance Petroleum and BPCL while losers - Sun Pharma, TCS, ONGC and Wipro.
Most active shares on the bourses are NDTV, Reliance Petroleum, Reliance Energy, Essar Oil and Reliance Industries.
The BSE Metal and Oil & Gas indices were up over 2.9%. The BSE Capital Goods and Power indices gained over 2% each. The BSE Auto, Bankex and Realty Indices were up 1.25%-1.9%.

Metal stocks are shining with Tata Steel and Hindalco each up over 3%, oil stocks like BPCL, HPCL and Reliance Petro are trading firm up over 3% each.
Sterlite Ind, SBI, L&T and ABB were among the other top gainers followed by DLF, M&M and BHEL.
IT stocks are trading weak. TCS, Wipro and Infosys are among the top losers. Followed by Satyam, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma and Nalco were among the top losers.

Mkt gains further ground: SBI, L&T, Hindalco up

Mkts firm: Auto, Cap Goods, Power, Metal stocks gain
The markets are trading higher on the back of continued buying support in auto, capital goods, metal, power, oil and banking stocks. The Nifty is still holding its 6000 mark. Midcap and small cap stocks are also in positive territory.
At 10:26 am, the Sensex was up 97 points at 19,951 and the Nifty up 26 points at 6,011.
Midcap index is up 1.4% and smallcap index is up nearly 2% outperforming the benchmark indices giving markets positive breadth.
VSNL is the star performer up over 3%. M&M, Tata Steel, Hindalco, ABB were also among the top gainers each up over 2%. Banking major SBI is up neraly 2%.

Market opens in green building on Monday's gains
The markets opened in green, the cues across world are largely quiet. The markets are building up on their gains made on Monday. Nifty is above 6000 mark and Sensex is hovering around 20,000 levels.
At 10.02 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 87.28 points or 0.44% at 19941.40, and the Nifty up 14.60 points or 0.24% at 5999.70.
About 2288 shares have advanced, 763 shares declined, and 47 shares are unchanged.
Deccan Aviation, IFCI, ITI are some of the active stocks in broader markets
Hindalco, Tata Motors, Reliance Petroleum, SAIL, Hero Honda, VSNL have opened in green.
Asian markets were trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei was up 0.20% or 31.08 points at 15,583.67.
Singapore's Straits Times rose 0.54% or 18.46 points at 3,452.99.
However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.82% or 67.08 points at 8,099.99.
South Korea's Seoul Composite was down 0.49% or 9.35 points at 1,910.12.
