US markets ended the session on a mixed note. Technology companies' earnings were disappointing for markets whereas financial companies reported better than expected results. Oil dropped further, which also gave some relief.

Crude declined to USD 128.88 per barrel on the NYMEX. It lost nearly USD 16 in this week itself, which also helped indices to gain hugely on weekly basis. Citigroup reported loss for second quarter, which was better than analysts' expectations.

However, earnings from tech giants like Google, Microsoft Corp and Advanced Micro Devices disappointed markets. Google numbers were below expectations while Microsoft could not be able to post numbers as per their given guidance. Advanced Micro Devices posted more loss.

The Dow gained 49.91 points, or 0.44%, to 11,496.57. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.36, or 0.03%, to 1,260.68, and the Nasdaq composite index lost 29.52 points, or 1.28%, to 2,282.78.
