US markets end higher

CNBC's Mary Thompson - It was an up day on Wall Street as strength in energy and mining stocks offset another weak day for financials. The Dow rose 52 points, the S&P added 5 and the Nasdaq finished up almost 13. Energy stocks rallied as crude oil climbed to yet another record close in the New York session, well early weakness in the dollar send gold and gold stocks higher. Miners and metal stocks were amongst Thursday’s best performers with the aluminium giant Alcoa leading the Dow higher, it finished with a 4% gain. Financial stocks extended their losses from Wednesday. Wall Street Action:
