On Sunday, more than two lakh students aspiring for B-shcools took the Common Entrance Test. Today, two of those Chandigarh Police arrested a former IITian and another Engineering student, on charges of attempts to cheat in CAT in Chandigarh, reports CNBC-TV18.

The first whiff of something being wrong came to IIM-Calcutta, when they found a number of application forms, having the same photographs but different details and different addresses. That is when they tipped off the Kolkata Police. The police was immediately on the trail of 10-20 such people. Two of them turned up in Chandigarh yesterday and they were sitting there under fake identities.

Basically, the charges against them are of impersonating. The police said that the plan was that they would sit at different centres and help other people to clear the examination. But now they have been arrested. They are right now in remand till November 22 and the police are now trying to find out if there are wider ramifications of this entire network and if coaching institutes too were involved in this entire scheme of defrauding of CAT system.
