The Rs 9,300 crore Dharavi Redevelopment Project has been delayed by a month yet again. The deadline for submission of bids has now been extended to May 31 from April 30.

This time it's because of a flood of over 700 queries from the 19 consortiums who are eligible to bid for the project. The key concerns involve transit facilities for slum dwellers and environmental clearances. Another key issue that has been the cause of much delay is the Shiv Sena's demand for 400 square feet tenements for the existing slum dwellers instead of the proposed 225 square feet.

“So, finally for development only 31% of land is there of which 18% is for slum rehabilitation and 13% is for the developer. We don't want to transfer development rights outside Dharavi to go out. So, it become difficult,” said Mukesh Mehta, Advisor- Dharavi Redevelopment CEO, MM Consultants.
