In a bid to tap the rapidly growing thin client computing market in India, Wyse Technology is exploring options to manufacture the devices in the country. Thin clients, a stripped down version of computers, are configured for purpose of server-based computing, wherein an organisation's applications reside on a shared server as opposed to an individual personal computer. Mr Tarkan Maner, President, Worldwide Field Operations, Wyse Technology, said the company was in talks with a couple of OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) in India and may finalise a partner over the next three to four months.
Wyse estimates the Indian thin client market to exceed 200,000 units this year. Wyse is seeing increasing demand from sectors such as business process outsourcing, banking and financial services, education, government, retail, aviation and healthcare among others, Mr Maner said. contd on page 2... |

At present, Wyse sources thin clients for Indian markets from its manufacturing facilities in China and Taipei. The company has a research and development facility in Bangalore.
