The world's largest air show is now officially open! And it has aerospace executives upbeat about the future of the industry, despite the likelihood of fewer orders for new planes because of high fuel prices and the credit crisis.
In the 60th year of the Farnborough International Airshow this year, over 300,000 people are going to attend and Credit Suisse expects 200-300 orders to be announced.
Akanksha Banerji caught up with Vijay Mallya, Founder, Kingfisher Airlines aboard the brand new A330 flight, "In about six weeks we are going to start our India to London Heathrow services. So it’s an exciting time, it’s also challenging because of what is happening in the world with the oil prices. I can also fly the Kingfisher narrow bodies to the Middle East and to the South East Asia, where yields are better and fuel is cheaper. So all in all, we are looking forward to commencing international operations, I think that it will significantly improve our operating economics as well."
"We have 10 wide body aircrafts due for delivery over the next eight weeks. We have none in 2009, the tax on the Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) is just killing the whole industry including us," he added. |
