Mahindra and Mahindra may be fighting tooth and nail to walk away with Ford's Land Rover and Jaguar brands. But that has not stopped it from drawing up mega plans to expand its product pipeline, reports CNBC-TV18’s Swati Khandelwal.

“If you look at our product portfolio, as it moved forward; we have four new platforms being launched: the Ingenio in 2008, the mass-market platform in 2009, the new SUV in 2010 and the trucks in 2009. Then, we have the Renault products coming out of the Chennai plant, which should be the Logan platform,” said Pawan Goenka, President-Automotive Sector, M&M.

M&M is looking at buyouts in forging, casting, gears and the stamping space reports CNBC-TV18. According to them, M&M is set to launch a station wagon in 2008 and a hatchback by 2009 end. The company will also launch a mass market platform for cars and pick-ups in 2009. In addition, they are set to launch a high-end SUV in the range of Rs 15-18 lakh in 2010.

According to CNBC-TV18, M&M said that they see sales of the Logan stabilizing at around 2000-2500 cars a month.

She said that Mr. Goenka talked about the trucks, which are scheduled to hit the roads in 2009. They will sport a new 200-300 horsepower engine, which is for the first time being developed in the joint venture with Mahindra and International Trucks.

Mahindra will launch an absolutely new truck in 2009. The expansion plans are fueled by acquisitions. It is understood that the company is looking at a lot of acquisitions in the component space, particularly in forging, stamping gears and castings. In fact, the company is also looking at expanding its partnership with Renault further. This may take a while till they finally firm up their plans. But that is definitely in the pipeline, added Khandelwal.

Mahindra is planning to expand further, in terms of both the products pipeline and their partnership with Renault. A decision on the partnership may be taken in a few months. And if it works out, it would mean launching the Scorpio through Renault's dealership network in select international markets. It would also mean making M&Ms products in Renault plants.
