Publishing company Macmillan India is close to acquiring a company, according to sources. The target company is reportedly in the education publishing space. The deal will give it undisputed leadership in the space.

The management confirmed the development, but said that it could not divulge details. And, there may be two acquisitions in the making, one of which, might be in the US. The overseas acquisition might be in the range of USD 20-25 million.

Though it might be a little premature to talk about the US acquisition, as it is still in talks, a domestic one is definitely on the radar. It may happen in the next few days.

As per sources working on the deal, though it might not be large, the domestic acquisition will make Macmillan India an undisputed leader in the segment. The domestic buy is in the education publishing space.

The company had acquired two companies in the recent year. In June 2005, it had acquired Charon Tech, which is a major supplier for overseas publishers.

And in March 2006, it had bought another US-based company Interactive Composition Corporation (ICC), for USD 3.24 million. ICC provides content processing services. The acquisition was done with an eye to strengthen the company’s presence in the North American market and enhance its services to major book publishers.
