Mumbai, May 14

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pharma has signed a co-promotion agreement with Daiichi Sankyo India Pharma Ltd for anti-hypertensive drug Olmesartan Medoxomil and its combination products. The agreement also marks Daiichi Sankyo India Pharma’s entry into India.

Daiichi Sankyo India is a subsidiary of Japanese pharma company Daiichi Sankyo Company Ltd. Olmesartan is an original research product of Daiichii Sankyo, grossing revenues of $ 2 billion for the company, a GSK Pharma note said. Dr Hasit Joshipura, Managing Director of GSK India, said that the agreement followed its other in-licensing agreement on Micafungin last week. “Our strategy, as laid out at the beginning of the year, of in- licensing products in specific high growth therapeutic areas is being rolled out and is well on track,” he said in the statement.

The note also quoted Mr V. Vijayendran, President of Daiichi Sankyo India saying that the arrangement met specific requirements of both organisations in terms of participation in the cardiology segment.
