Hyderabad, May 9
Business process outsourcing services provider Convergys Corporation is set to further expand and consolidate its Indian operations and is looking at partnering telecom companies helping them in billing solutions area.
The Cincinnnati-based $2.8-billion company, which employs over 12,000 people in India (of the 75,000 globally), has recently bagged a deal from state-owned BSNL and is in parleys with about five-six telecom carriers to offer its solutions.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of Convergys Corporation, Mr David F. Dougherty, said the company has a business pipeline of about $5 billion and has not seen any direct impact of the current slowdown on its business.
On a visit to India and its facilities, Mr Dougherty told Business Line that the company expects its business to accelerate in the second half of this year and is in the process of adding about 6,000 more people across the world and a good number of them in India to meet business requirements.
Convergys has nine centres in India, and Hyderabad hosts its software development team that has grown from barely a dozen employees to about 1,300 and is now poised for the next phase of growth, said Mr Paresh Shah, Managing Director of Convergys Information Management (India).
“We have managed to keep the attrition levels to much below the industry average and the accent is on offering employees a career in the industry. This has meant many employees in the company in India have grown to senior managers. The company is also looking at inducting talent from Tier I and II cities,” Mr Dougherty said.
