The Bombay High Court has postponed RIL-RNRL case to July 22. It has also continued the stay on the KG Basin gas sale, reports CNBC-TV18.
RIL’s argument was that they should be allowed to negotiate with other third party suppliers irrespective of what the judgement is. But RIL says it will include a clause in the contract saying that whatever agreements are being reached with third party suppliers are subject to whatever the Court orders.
So, RIL claims the case won’t be prejudiced towards them because it’s signing a third party agreement with some other suppliers. They even took names like Tata Power, Torrent and NTPC.
However, RNRL says that at the basic level, it is entitled to the gas which RIL is negotiating for. By signing contracts, it will open a whole pandora’s box. RNRL upped stake today and brought in Ram Jethmalani on the case.
The Court said that RIL is free to negotiate with other third party suppliers. But in no way will this agreement prejudice in whose favour the decision is going to be made. The Court stayed out of making any comments or passing any orders and said that status quo should be maintained and when it meets after the vacation they will discuss the matter again. That is when the interim orders will also be discussed and when the case will go in the future.
