Bangalore's corporate bigwigs are not happy with the Civil Aviation Ministry's decision to close down HAL Airport when the new Bengaluru International Airport is opened on May 23. They say the city's citizens and business prospects will suffer if the old airport is shut down.

The issues raised include the fact that BIAL has a capacity of 11 million passengers annually. Bangalore's current traffic is 10.5 million.  Devanahalli is 2.5 hours from the electronic city where Infosys, Wipro and Biocon is located and making day trips is difficult. There are no hotels in Devanahalli yet.
