Kolkata, June 8

The setting up of a liver transplantation facility in Kolkata by Apollo Hospitals Chennai is “in the pipeline”, according to Ms Ishita Basu, Regional Head of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.

Speaking to newspersons here, Ms Basu said Apollo Hospitals has its specialty living donor and cadaveric liver transplantation facilities in Chennai and New Delhi.

In contrast, there was no such facility in eastern India. Apollo Hospitals was keen to set up a modern specialty liver transplantation facility here in Kolkata to cater to the needs of patients in eastern and north-eastern India.

Ms Basu said the setting up of such a facility here was “in the pipeline”. She, however, did not say by when such a facility would become a reality.

She also did not detail the investment that the proposal would entail.
