Dear Rajesh, I too would think of selling some part of my holding after 3 - 4 years, at a price which has a zero added to the present one, yes, at 1000 . Till then, I would sit tight.

Rumple, you are right about that research report by PPFAS. Actually, they were looking at VOIP as the next wave in telecom and had the global backdrop of e bay buying skype.
Today e bay is trying to sell skype, but till now no buyers have emerged. VOIP globally does have great promise, but there are a variety of issues which have prevented the conversion of that potential into reality. One thing is certain though : mainline telecom will not take this challenge lightly and sooner rather than later, you can expect new connectivity barriers for VOIP.
Let`s wait for the Spokn model to emerge before racking our brains on it. And any way, they have plenty of revenue streams apart from VOIP, so nothing to worry.

geo has given decrease in eps this quarter --- markets are swfter than us --- price corrected from 150 to 100 -- before we could blink
so if we think of selling now --- market already beat us to it
who knows --- it may still fall to zero -- if people are in profits ---- not a bad idea to still book profits --- or lower the price of balance qty --- or hold on till next quarter results ---- each one should have their plan in place --- and follow that plan --- markets always confuses us ---- it is a mind gme
am just giving my amateur thoughts...

Dear Comatose,
My positive outlook on VOIP is based on a research report I read long ago. You can also read the report which was published exactly one year ago on the Geodesic website. Check the Investor Relations page and see the research report by PPFAS.
Either way, I feel there must have been alot of good info disclosed at the concall, since the volumes soared in the two days after the concall. The price movement did not look like operators wanted to push the share down, but it looked like they were aggressively picking up huge quantities.
Finally, you appear to be looking at the VOIP business only from the Indian perspective. I don`t think this is officially allowed as yet. I am sure the management is looking at it as a product for the global market.
Cheers....

Dear dks, The apprehension of spokn not being as great a money spinner as it was once expected to be may be completely unfounded, as the spokn business model is not informed to us and there are large markets apart from the US, where significant Indian diaspora lives and would look for low cost communication with India. I was voicing a general opinion based on overall issues. The Geodesic management is far better aware of all these issues than we are and are already operating in the VOIP space. Once the concall transcript is posted on their website, we would have a better idea of what kind of topline and bottomline they hope to achieve from this activity. We should than base our future expectation on their targets.
Regarding the company, Rajesh had once posted about, Geodesic the company, and Geodesic the share. The company may do very well, but the share price may stay low. I am not bothered because sooner or later, market price will catch up with fundamentals. My holding cost is 129/- and I am not really worried about the fall in prices, as I see that the management is working very hard and sooner or later, their efforts would be rewarded by the market.

Dear Comboitose,
exactly the apprehension that i had, its not doing great so far. I am thinking to make small exits as from my price its 35% less now. Secondly the market may make a new low which is much harder to face. Since the new price starts tanking from here onwards. The market retracement is still not over.we may be halfway as no new triggers are there....

I am not that enthusiastic about spokn. I feel there are many basic issues which would limit Geod`s profit generation through VOIP, and produce at the most, routine, commodity style profitability.
For example, maximum VOIP traffic is between India and the US, using service providers such as Vonage or Magicjack , who give unlimited talk time to US nos. against a small monthly/annual fees. Now mainline telecom companies like Airtel and Reliance offer calls to India under packages which cost about 1 - 2 cents a minute. In such a competitive environment, scope for heavy profits gets reduced.

Thanks Comatose,
The brief details reported by Mediamma look extremely positive. The reported is dated 5th Nov, which means the concall was probably held on 4th evening. No wonder yesterday & today there is a huge jump in volumes. Feel sorry for all those selling after the results.
I expect the share to start moving up after 10th Nov, when spokn is launched. Have bought 900 shares today at Rs 99/100
Cheers...

From Medianama, some tit bits about the con call.
" Geodesic Ltd is still negotiating its latest social networking acquisition. In answer to a question by Medianama at the company’s post-earnings conference call, Kiran Kulkarni, MD, Geodesic, said the acquisition is expected to be completed by end of December.
Mundu TV In India
Geodesic is looking to launch Mundu TV on mobile in India first and then take it to international markets. “Telcos like TV as it enhances their value through GPRS usage,” said Kulkarni. Carriers are also interested in its IM, VoIP and TV products, Mundu Radio is also gaining more contracts. “From the IM perspective, we see that telecom converging with IP makes sense. Telcos are trying to make money from IM. We are seeing traction, taking products from our Uruguay-based subsidiary Interactive Networks Inc and propagating them in India. We are steadily growing in the telco segment,” said Kulkarni.
Chandamama To Launch Interactive Digital Books
Chandamama launched an interactive site in multiple languages in the quarter; it will launch a series of digital books that will see the light of day in next 2 quarters. The books will have interactive pieces which may in the future become in-story games.
Spokn To Launch Soon
On the delay of Spokn, their VoIP product, Kulkarni said, “We are easing out product issues. With such a product, only tech-savvy users know how to use it: grandmas and grandpas do not use VoIP. We are attempting to make UI improvements and accessibility changes to ensure they can.” Spokn will be launched on November 10, 2009.
On The Popularity of Geodesic Products Abroad Rather Than India
For the company, 47% of retail business comes from USA. It has not spent much on marketing in India as very few users have GPRS. “Fact is that 79% of Blackberry users use only voice in India and not its e-mail features,” said Kulkarni. Now, the company has started publishing product catalogues on Indian sites and is focusing on Indian markets now; taking care to get high amount of publicity.
Smartphone Shipments Dropping; Microsoft Losing Out
Shipments of smart phones are dropping especially in Middle East and focus on Android and Linux is growing while Microsoft OS based smartphones are dropping. “We had thought of this and built a product for IM for Android based phones. Shipments to these handset manufacturers commence in the next quarter. We have crossed the bridge with other manufacturers,” said Kulkarni.
Other bytes from the conference call:
International SMS product got 300,000 subscribers in the quarter
7000 international clients using Mundu SMS
Most of our system integrators give 10-12 licences a year, each licence give an average $160,000-180,000 a year. Around 25 customers are consistent quarter on quarter.
Foreign exchange losses are in the range of Rs. 7.5 crores and others from Rs. 3.5 crores to Rs. 4.5 crores extra.

There were 55,000 SMSs being sent per day on average using Mundu SMS
Simputer got 6 clients as against 4 clients in quarter
Setting up a call centre in Bangalore to take care of support calls for mobile products and Internet Telephony.
Employee costs are expected go up 20-25% with recent ramp up to its engineering and senior management teams.
The company believes it is making headway in the Middle East and Korea, where GeoAmida is being used in Point-of-Sale transactions, B2B, B2C and C2c transactions.
In India, GeoAmida was chosen by the public distribution system of Madhya Pradesh
Geodesic’s sole competitor is Cymbal. “But our advantage is they are not an Indian company,” said Kulkarni."...
