Portfolio risk is a function of the extent to which returns are related to one another. The portfolio risk levels will be less than the weighted average security risk levels. Diversification is most effective when the returns from the individual securities are inversely correlated or, in practice, least correlated.

Young Shud be frugal, save but not take risk, for the name of risk, or whatever it is, they are fleeced by conman, and it applies to our country, which is young, in a relative sense, to the so called advanced eco. of the world.

Today`s investing Mantra - 25th Nov 2009

DIVERSIFICATION IS KEY
Diversification is the key to safeguarding one`s future and building wealth. If you ask someone, have you diversified our investments, mostly the person would say
Yes. I have some money in Stocks, some in MF, some in bank savings. In stocks, I am DIVERSIFIED in Tech, FMCG and Real Estate.
Well, DIVERSIFICATION does not mean that. It means having a spread of ASSET CLASS - Gold, Insurance, Real Estate, Stocks, FD, etc.
This diversification depends on your age, liabilities, responsibilities and risk profile. Usually the younger one is, the heavier the investment in risky asset class such as Equities, MF and as one progresses, the ratio shifts towards DEBT instruments such as PF, FD, Bonds, etc.
So DIVERSIFY in ASSET CLASS and not just in STOCKS or MF.
Cheers

Market did see-saw today. My first target was achieved, that is below 5090, it touched 5050 in Nifty Futures. It came back up again in green from there and then again went below 5090 to touch 5075. Adjustment closing saw it close above 5090. Which is a good thing.
For tomorrow, I think market would open in green. Would update more on levels once I see the opening.
About the short term market move, I feel post expiry market would show us again a quick correction till 4800-4700 level and then would go up till 5200-5300 again before the final year-end correction sets in due to FII profit booking.
Thanks,
Rudra...
TO KANTH, SHUBHRA,
PRICOL touched a 52 Wk high of 18. Target as per Excel file achieved.
Pls book profits or continue to hold with trailing SL as per your risk appetite....

Bhailog, Pls post the entire story.
The GDR was indeep up 105% and trading was halted in it in LSE.
Reason - The buggers did not knew abt RIL`s bonus in the coming weak. They had to account for it which created this raise.

TO ADITYA,
Was that `Psychological Analysis` inspired by Malayali`s Astronomical or Numerological Analysis.
Whose Pschye have you analysed bro...
TO GANGARAM,
Thanks for the note and appreciation.
If I am not wrong, in the last 3-4 months, I have gone wrong on 2 fronts:-
1. Oct expiry at 5100
2. Investment in Airtel.
So accracy is above 80% :)...Just kidding.
Cement - South cement companies have bit of overcapacity. India cements can go upto 135-150 if we dont sell off.
Adag shares - I prefer Airtel anytime over RCom. I remember some 4 months back, I had asked a boarder not to invest in RCom and Tata Tele. CDMA players will be hit big time by MNP. My team has done the marketing research on this.
I will post my comments on NF in my profile later on....

TO SD3,
You are right abt NTT and Etisalat.
Etisalat is one of my telecom clients. We are one of the partners helping them with strategy and pricing.
They have deep pockets and are quite big in middle east. Person at my level and exp. earns 10 lakhs more than me :) ...

Starting a new thread with aim of providing inspiration to genuine investors.
Some Aberrations, corrections come. But this should not deter the long term investment goals.
Rallies, Tips will come but thou should not become too greedy and lose sight of goals....
Also RUPESH, if you have noticed there is a person, GANDABACCHA - Whenever he comes online, he makes it a point to sling mud at me...LOL...I give it back :)
You should do the same or chose to ignore bro. This is a corrupt world. YOU CAN CHOSE YOUR FRIENDS BUT NOT YOUR ENEMIES AND COLLEAGUES....
TO RUPESH,
Mate. This is not the first time a good boarder has been abused. Most People on MMB are used to daily does of `fish`. Once it goes sour, they cry foul.
This is a free forum. You did not point a gun and asked him to trade. JUST IGNORE, mare!...
Today`s run up and breaking of 5000 will keep mouth of some hypocrites shut:-
Centrum broking - We will not see 5000 levels in this quarter
Sukhani - This is a market to sell on rise. Earlier he was saying this is a market to buy on dips. I bet from today onwards he will say the same.
Fresh Investments made on 29th Oct (20%) and (15%) yielding 10-20% returns.
Star performers - SBI, KPIT, JSW STEEL, ENGINEERS INDIA, JINDAL SAW. Booked complete profits in all of these today. Squared off the SBI future (GREED)
Still holding on to TISCO positions of CAs, PAs, Future. Came out from notional loss of around 18K to profit of 22K.
My hunch of CNBC showing S.S. paid off well again.
Cheers
