In this situation, no buy back will b helpful to arrest the share price fall. Great offshore is one example. So long as buy back was going on, it was a little firm. Now that buy back is over, share has fallen sharply....

Dear radhika,it is very difficult to beleive promoters on the buy back matters.... few just announced buyback to arrest the fall of their shares, few are struggling for cash for their buyback approvals.... for few sebi is hoding the approvals.... few announced consideration of buyback if their stocks fall further.... for example dlf telling buyback for quite sometime, but not implementing as per their plan.... though there are few going for genuine buybacks,a a whole lot of confusion at the moment with this buy back stories.... almost all companies facing liquidity crunch,so where is the possibility of buybacks.... the promoters who sold stocks in the bull run peak may be buying back some shares to increase their stakes.... so,even buybacks are not helping investors here....

Yes i said about some profits in january.... reinvestd 50% of them again in stock market, now they are quoting at almost 50% of my investment amount in 2008.... but luckily/fortunately all these losses recovered in speculation in recent times.... so,on over all, havent earned/lost anything in 2008 sofar.... proudly say that not in losses even sensex fell by nealy 50% in this year.... pl note that havent pumped in fresh amount during this year sofar, the part profits made in the previous years are invested back.... so,not in panic, not in depression till now.... now mainly betting on options for safer /guaranteed returns.......

Marketman,
Sometime back you said u made a lot of money in stockmarkets, i think it was one year back... remember? Did u encash all ur profits then. If yes did u reinvest and when... if you have yet to reinvest, how much will you deploy in stocks and which shares and how soon do u think markets will recover. It may take 3 to 4 years they say... but that kind of bullrun is history for now i feel....
Could u recommend some penny stocks to me which i can buy in bulk... they should be below Rs 10. Thanks in advance.

hi marketman,
i don't agree with u. Infy is a bluechip stock. with good fundamentals also. quality management. good model in place. knows how to compete with biggies. axon acquisition will add to its expertese in software technologies. so it will go on doing well in future also. i feel they are very well diversified and have a long way to go. every business will have ups & downs. things will look better as they are entering into new markets and 4 is at 46 now and will only gain more strength by touch 48-50 in 1 year from now. infy is Fii's darling favourite stock :)
swamy.

marketman,
Would you know which companies are buying back their shares? Is there a board which lists companies buying back their shares? This would be very useful information

Dear pras, there may not be a problem for infy as long as topline for some more time,ut concern is outstanding dues may not be received properly due to failure of american comapnies.... rupee will continue to be strenthen as it is under valued.... profit margins of all software comapnies can not be more han 15% from here onwads.... axon buy may not offset present crisis effect.... there may be set backs in Q2 results though there is much depreciation of rupee.... regarding guidance, the management may not go for giving any guidance this time....

Marketman,
Here are a few things that may work in Infy\\`s favor.
1. BoA and Goldman may need additional functionality / software for there new businesses (The acquisitions they have done and are going to do). Infy may get a major chunk of it.
2. Rupee will depreciate in the near to medium term. Expect dollar to appreciate once the bad blood from credit crisis is removed.
3. Infy can manage margins better than any other s/w company in India.
4.Axon buy may help improve margin in the longer term by more offshoring.
Also one thing is for sure is that if the software sector goes in bear phase for long, rupee may not appreciate significantly.
More clarity should emergr when Infy declares 2nd quarter results and gives annual guidance.
