Invest in PPF as much as you can and as early as you can during each financial year. Do not close the PPF a/c ever. Continue the a/c by extending in 5 year blocks as many times as you can after 15 years. If you have a good balance at the time of retirement - you can withdraw the interest credited every year. It is tax free pension. The balance in the a/c will ultimately go to the nominee. For getting good pension - avoid any policy offered by insurance companies. Instead try and create as big a corpus as possible at retirement by investing in mutual funds via SIP and PPF. You can create pension anytime at that time by investing in immediate annuity ....

Dear Bsatheesh, I also agree that planning for pension with investment in LIC is not very wise decision. There are other option which can pay you better in long term. So invest small amount in term insurance and rest of the investment should be balanced. Such as buy a small house or land which you can repay in easy installments. Planning to invest for health coverage scheme for expenses after age 50 for both me and my wife (i am 37 yrs. old now). Currently, getting coverage from company. but as i am in private firm, want to take another health coverage scheme assuming the treatment model would be totally different after 15 years in India.

which one is reliable and good in terms of return and coverage? I am planning Rs. 1000 / month as premium and do not want (almost till my 50 assuming i will be in some job) coverage till my age 50.
