A strange thing was happening today. In many stocks like RIL, ICICI Bank,SBI,Larsen and Toubro, there were more Bids (buy Orders) than Offers Sell Orders). Yet prices were going down or not moving throughout the day. only in last 15 minutes Short Sellers woke up to the game played by FIIs and their local agent brokers....

Why are volumes so huge in this counter? Today combined volume of 2.5 crore shares transacted. Classic Bull and Bear tussle or retail investors being taken for a ride?...

There is a news item in today's DNA as follows: "Larsen & Toubro has sought shareholders' nod for raising Rs. 2400 crore through Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) of securities, in one or more tranches, within a year starting from August 29." ...

Perhaps our great Mr. Chidambaram has finally bowed to the FIIs and they are now about to enter our markets. Please note that SEBI is meeting next week to relax PE Notes rules so that FIIs can again buy on behalf of their nameless clients. ...

What is going on? How can Banking stocks are bad in the morning and suddenly recover in the afternoon. Has inflation gone down in 2-3 hours or what....

But how should one calculate profit and loss. For example, Rs. 100 invested in say May 2004 has multiplied to Rs. 250 in Jan. 2008. And when reinvested, portfolio value has come down to say Rs. 180 in Aug. 2008. So is the investor making a profit of Rs.80 or a loss of Rs. 70?...

What about TCS, Tata Steel, Infosys, SBI and NTPC? I think they also should be part of Titans....

The new tool these market makers are using is they put up a limit order with option all or none...... this is brave risk they take but it helps them drive the stock up or down...... becaz daytraders freek out by just looking at the size.......... ...

for stock like L&T news come everyday. It bags order consistently thus it's orderbook is going to be full for atleast next 2 fiscals....

if u invested 100 in May04 and the value of portfolio was 180 in Aug08, then on the assumption that u did not trade between this period, u have made an unrealised gain of 80 over 4 years. This is pure paper profit. U have got nothing but just cold comfort that u made some profit. This can vanish the very next day since u cannot control the events that value the scrip. The real tick is when u sell them. That\\`s when u encash the value of portfolio u have made profit or loss. So its always better to have a goal when u buy stocks. Assess what is your expected return- 25%/50%/100%/ and over what period. Keep a close tab of the movement and when u have achived what u wanted, EXIT. Dont hold to emotions and greed. Treat yourself for taking a decision to exit and encash profit. Reinvest only the capital again and use the same logic. No need to hurry. Markets dont always move in one direction.U will never miss the train. There is always another train which u can board in case u missed any. But as a cuation- understand what u are investing and research and read and discuss. Its a serious business- needs time, effort and patience to be rewarded....
