SEBI can de-list RIL in an EXTREME case. According to SEBI`s new floating rule the market cap is important. So the notice is tehre law will take its own natural course and investors in this stock will have to face the consequences.

Obviously some will not remain invested in this stock with this kind of information in this market. So don`t invest that will bring the marekt cap down and that will force RIL out of indices.

So there are investors and they have a choice.

So why are you abusing and writing irrelevant matters of far fetched imaginary actions? Write to SEBI. Write to CLB as Mukesh Ambani said in his speech at teh AGM. They are there to listen to you and take appropriate action. Maybe against you as well. Are you scared?...

Scrips like RELIANCE against whom there are so many issues on corporate governance and even SEBI has slapped it a notice asking "why it should not barred from the exchange", should be kicked out of all the indices. Then only some sanity can return to the market.

Hi Comatose,

If I remember right you were not too bullish on VOIP & Spokn earlier. Thanks to your research you are very positive now.

You did say you used Skype often earlier. Have you registered for Spokn. Would love to hear your first hand comments after using Spokn regarding it`s advantages over Skype, apart from being cheaper.

I have never used Skype and have no one to call internationally, so no need for spokn either.

Do PC calls result in savings?
Until June this year, Indians spent 135 million minutes on internet telephony, according to data from the Internet Service Providers’ Association of India. Most view internet telephony as something that is not only cheap but also practical, like Afshan Ahmed, who manages the day-to-day operations of a Nashik-based NGO for street children.

“We have several NRI benefactors in the US, mainly in New Jersey and Chicago. Calling them on a monthly basis over a mobile phone would have eaten into our paltry funds,” she says. The NGO, on Ahmed’s insistence, moved to using Skype internet telephony. Today, a second-hand laptop, a broadband connection at a monthly rental of Rs 200 and a Skype service for Rs 500 per month allows the NGO to make cheap calls to its donors across the globe. Ahmed claims that this move has saved thousands of rupees for the NGO.

Companies like Geodesic have been quick to grab the opportunity. Kiran Kulkarni, co-founder and managing director of Geodesic, promotes internet telephony products that work without an internet connection.

“Geodesic’s Spokn does not require an internet connection. Users can make domestic and international calls over PC-to-PC, phone-to-phone and PC-to-phone,” he says. The company has also addressed the security protocol issue, which is the Indian government’s biggest concern when it comes to VoIP usage.

-------------------------------------------------------
USING VoIP SERVICES
How do you make calls using PC?
Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is the convention allowing transmission of voice through the internet

What do you get while calling from PC? For PC-to-phone VoIP services, users get features like free PC-to-PC calling, conference calls, voice mail, choice of online phone numbers, call forwarding and reduced long-distance rates, especially for international calls But, as with phone-to-phone VoIP services, call quality is not always perfect

What do you need for making these calls? An internet-connected PC, a pair of earphones/speakers with a microphone If you are making international calls to mobile or wired line phones from India, then most VoIP services require a minimum payment

Any other option ? If both caller and receiver have internet connections, they can use Google Talk, Yahoo, MSN, etc for free video or voice chats
---------------------------------------------------------------

“We track the number from where the call is originating and the destination number. This data is freely shared with the regulatory authority,” assures Kulkarni. On this count, Skype, the popular internet telephony solution provider for PC-to-PC calls, has run into trouble as it refuses to share encryption codes with Indian security agencies.
Who stands to benefit?
The user can get optimum value for money with VoIP (check box). Calls made to international destinations typically cost between Re 1 and Rs 2 per minute. For instance, Geodesic’s Spokn allows calls to the UK and the US (mobile and landline) at 0.92 paisa per minute. Alok Shende, principal analyst and founder director, Ascentius, says: “International outbound VoIP services in India accounted for a Rs 85-crore revenue in 2008-09. These services comprise close to 15 per cent of the total international outbound voice minutes from India.”

He adds that consumers prefer PC-to-PC VoIP calls. However, internet telephony solutions are different due to their ability to call international phone numbers — wired phone lines or wireless mobile phones.
India’s 50 million odd internet users may not know every detail about the government’s stand on internet telephony services, but they are fast realising the advantage that VoIP services offer.

New Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) India, the world`s largest sugar consuming nation, may import a record of six million tonne in the 2009-10 season due to a sharp dip in domestic production, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a report.
Last season, the country is estimated to have purchased 2.8 million tonne sugar from the global market, it said. Sugar season runs from October to September.
"Assuming relatively stable international sugar prices, India`s sugar imports during 2009-10 are forecast to reach a record six million t-

-onne will be raw sugar and one million tonne will be refined sugar," the USDA projected in its latest report titled `Sugar: World production, supply and distribution`.
Quoting industry sources, the report said mills have already contracted about 2.5 MT of raw sugar for imports in the first quarter (October-December) of the 2009-10 season.

MOU on a PERSONAL basis ..there are 100`s of opinions. What counts is that what the law says. If u had such views it will be appreciated. You have a single sided biased view and has over run all earlier court observations.See..Why we are not qualified as judges & how good one should be to judge even on a PERSONAL basis ?...

In reply to:

Posted by : bhusbhac

fortis - Certainly the MOU is an important document between the two brothers and is an important document for the demerger as well however remedy in case of non compliance is built into the MOU on a PERSONAL basis.

It can be argued that BOTH brothers were party to an erronous belief of the PSC, GOI taxes and profit under the PSC and the period when the RPOWER Dadri project will come up. In fact it is the GSMA which respects RNRL`s right otherwise Anil Ambani has to get the gas ONLY to take REL to greater heights.

There is no mention of RNRL in the MOU!

So sketchy it is and if it comes down to the MOU and the demerger a settlement between the two brothers amounting to some Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 may be in the offing. So how will Anil Ambani pass on this benefit to RNRL and / or RPOWER? What about the shareholders who supported him?

Once again I wish to re-iterate that despite the ugly discussions on this board I have always maintained that Anil Ambani is entitled to a reasonable cash amount as a share in their inherritance and since Mukesh is the elder brother.

The MAIN problem about the case matter is that the Dadri project has not come up in order that HSC could enforce RIL and / or GOI to give some concessions and nowhere in the MOU is it mentioned that Mukesh and / or RIL should arrive at a bankable agreement between the two parties. The strict interpretation of a suitable arrangament and a bankable arrangament does not amount to an interpretation of law and an agreement has to be an agreement between both parties. That does not make RIL signly a defaulter. Otherwsie Anil Ambani should not have resigned until he had a concrete agreement with him. That it could not be done since many factors were undetermiend may not be the fault of Mukesh alone. Hence the current factors need to be taken into account.

Addressed to  IncredibInvest

That is an incredible answer. Thanks for a detailed and informative reply.

My only exposure to CDMA was the starting Reliance phone. I could never use it as freely as GSM of IDEA. Now I am adicted to Blackberry and would think long before going elsewhere.

CDMA has been traditionally faster than GSM, though both technologies continue to rapidly leapfrog along this path. Both boast "3G" standards, or 3rd generation technologies.

EVDO, also known as CDMA2000, is CDMA`s answer to the need for speed with a downstream rate of about 2 megabits per second, though some reports suggest real world speeds are closer to 300-700 kilobits per second (kbps). This is comparable to basic DSL. As of fall 2005, EVDO is in the process of being deployed. It is not available everywhere and requires a phone that is CDMA2000 ready.

GSM`s answer is EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), which boasts data rates of up to 384 kbps with real world speeds reported closer to 70-140 kbps. With added technologies still in the works that include UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Standard) and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), speeds reportedly increase to about 275—380 kbps. This technology is also known as W-CDMA, but is incompatible with CDMA networks. An EDGE-ready phone is required.

In the case of EVDO, theoretical high traffic can degrade speed and performance, while the EDGE network is more susceptible to interference. Both require being within close range of a cell to get the best speeds, while performance decreases with distance.

Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards: In the United States only GSM phones use SIM cards. The removable SIM card allows phones to be instantly activated, interchanged, swapped out and upgraded, all without carrier intervention. The SIM itself is tied to the network, rather than the actual phone. Phones that are card-enabled can be used with any GSM carrier.

The CDMA equivalent, a R-UIM card, is only available in parts of Asia but remains on the horizon for the U.S. market. CDMA carriers in the U.S. require proprietary handsets that are linked to one carrier only and are not card-enabled. To upgrade a CDMA phone, the carrier must deactivate the old phone then activate the new one. The old phone becomes useless.
