Generex`s oral insulin gets initial orders from India
Singapore, Mar 12, 2009: On the heels of yesterday`s announcement of positive study data from its phase III protocol for its flagship product Generex Oral-lyn, US-based Generex Biotechnology is updating on the products sales in India, where it is marketed and sold by Indian Pharmaceutical company, Shreya Life Sciences.
Generex Oral-lyn was approved in India for importation, commercial marketing and sale for the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and has been marketed under the brand name Oral Recosulin since January 27, 2009 in Mumbai and in the cities of Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Cochin since February 3, 2009.
Following the initial marketing campaign, Generex has announced that Shreya Life Sciences has to date procured Oral Recosulin orders from more than 60 doctors for over 100 patients.
"We believe that the rapid progress that our licensee has made in India reflects the demand for a pain-free insulin product," said Ms Anna Gluskin, Generex`s CEO. "Since the educational introduction of Generex Oral-lyn in India last November, Shreya has designed and implemented a strategy to identify target markets in India and establish an initial customer base from which we expect sales to continue to grow."
Generex Oral-lyn is a proprietary oral insulin spray product, the first non-injectable buccal insulin approved in India. Unlike inhaled insulin products, buccally absorbed Generex Oral-lyn is said to have no pulmonary side effects, and is delivered without pain via Generex`s proprietary RapidMist device, which is said to provide complete absorption through the buccal mucosa (lining of the mouth) with no deposit in the lungs.

100 percent wrong dear, read followong question and answer on
dition(dot)cnn(dot)com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/11/14/india.mazumdarshaw/index.html
question:Can Biocon`s oral insulin IN-105 replace traditional and painful needle based insulin delivery system for type1 diabetics? Can a diabetic who is taking insulin by needle based delivery system hope for change in near future
Mazumdar-Shaw: Oral Insulin is not just about delivering Insulin in a tablet. It is about delivering Insulin very rapidly to the liver (hepato-delivery) which is the main organ responsible for glycemic control in our body. Injectable Insulin takes approximately 30 minutes to act. Oral Insulin takes approximately 5 minutes to act which mimics how non-diabetics respond to glucose uptake when food is consumed. This will help both Type I and Type II diabetics to manage their diabetes better.
We hope that early intervention with Oral Insulin will help to manage Diabetes especially in Type II diabetics much more effectively than is being done by oral diabetic agents like Metformin, Sulphonyl Ureas and Glitazones which stimulate the pancreas to produce Insulin.
This is unlike oral Insulin which will allow a poorly functioning pancreas to rest and hopefully help to revive Insulin secreting beta cells. Should our Oral Insulin program succeed, this will revolutionize Diabetes therapy in the future.

Guest,
Well other oral medicines to treat diabets are nothing but another form of oral insulin only... i dont see why an oral medicine replacing the prick should make a difference to Biocon`s revenues... in fact oral administration is not well absorbed only the serum base is well assimilated, else why would we have insulin shots replacing oral diabetic drugs in the first place??...
nothing is impossible in stock market. watch out for ORAL INSULIN recently in last stage of phase 3 trial, if successful biocon can do wonders,
buy 100-200 take a chance!...
