Cairn India imports 2 U.S. rigs to start extracting discoveries in Barmer


MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Cairn India Ltd., a unit of Cairn Energy Plc., said it has imported two drilling rigs made by U.S.-based National Oilwell Varco (NOV) as part of its preparations to start extracting discoveries in the Barmer district of the western Indian state of Rajasthan later this year.

The first of the two rigs, costing $86 million, has arrived at Haldia port, while the second rig is expected to arrive at the port of Mundra in Gujarat later this week, the exploration and production company said in a release.

These rigs will be used for development drilling in the Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya (MBA) fields in Barmer Basin and for appraising other finds and carrying out exploration drilling in other parts of the country, Cairn India said.

At 2:43 pm, Cairn India was quoting at Rs 227, up Rs 6.60, or 2.99%. It has touched an intraday high of Rs 227.75 and an intraday low of Rs 219. It was trading with volumes of 576,559 shares. Yesterday the share closed down 0.41% or Rs 0.90 at Rs 220.40.

I am positive on Cairn India. I feel that the long-term crude price assumption cannot be below USD 85-90/bbl. Even in the current scenario when the crude has started to come off significantly and even USD 75 kind of an average realisation for Cairn, the value of Cairn comes to about Rs 270-280. fully agree..shud be arnd 210 tomorrow if crude remains at 100..keep your fingers crossed coz if crude is going to rally to even arnd 108 - 110 (unlikely) this will be back in the 240 range.......
