The misuse of government institutions, as alleged by Bahujan Samajwadi Party MP Brajesh Pathak on Monday in his opening remarks, took a turn for the worse on Tuesday when the BSP members tore into the ruling Congress for misusing the country's premier investigative agency the CBI.

Speaking during the debate on confidence motion, series of BSP members alleged that senior CBI officers visited them over the past few days and threatened them that unless they voted for the ruling party, the government would unleash the fury of the CBI on their leader Mayawati.

A couple of them even pleaded with the Speaker that they feel completely threatened and hence needed protection. The Speaker said that he will provide them full protection, and referred the matter to the Home Ministry for the members' protection outside the House.

There was commotion in the House, and a number of other members, from other parties too (non UPA) tore into the government and all demanded that a House Committee be formed to go into this serious allegation.

The CPM MP Achari also alleged that the UPA government is using CBI to muster majority. CPI MP Gurudas Das Gupta also interrupted to demand a House probe into the allegation. TOI-
