I do trading in Mercator and I am well off. This is a fundamentally good stock and can easily see the levels of 60 once the market conditions improve. But Presently I recommend everyone to do trading as the stock will rise and again will be available at the same levels. I expect a mayhem near Q3 results. So take the best decision. By the way you are the same person who was recommending Platinum. I made money in it so no regrets. I would like to thank you for the same.

yeah. may be. but how is it going to matter if the stock price goes onto reach 200 levels in next 3-5 years.
My question is how does it matter if you buy at 35 or 32 or 29 or 25, if the stock price goes to Rs. 200 levels in next 3-5 years.
Only fools & liers predict the top & bottoms in the market.
To be frank I sold at 120 levels. it went to 180 levels.
I rebought at 60 levels it has come down to 30. Even Warren Buffet can`t be correct in these markets with over 65 years of experience.
Where am I & you?

The demand for ore, coal etc is low now...Lot of companies are shutting down the plants temporarily....Lot of steel companies are going slow on production..all these things affect MLL/its subsidiary revenues.....No doubt that this company is one of the best during uptrend...my view is this stock will be available at below 20 in near future and that is the right time to invest...

The EPS you are looking at seems standalone. If you consider Sep 08 quarter, on a consolidated sales of 650 cr, MLL has returned with a Net profit of 135 cr. On a equity of 23.5 cr, it translates to an EPS of nearly 6. This was predominanatly ona ccount of a very good performance of the Singapore subsidiary.
I know the economic downtrend will impact MLL like all other industries and companies and hence I felt that an EPS of 3.5 was more likely per quarter.
The backward integration into coal mines (from transporting coal to Tata Steel and the likes) and drdging operations makes this a very inetersting play and hence the optimistic note.

The shipping industry earning season starts from dec till mar..but this time the demand is not much...so it will definitely affect the earnings...If you compare the results for past 6 Qtrs..you will realize where MLL is heading......
1.35 (sep 07)
1.02 (dec 07)
3.15 (Mar 08)
0.45 (Jun 08)
0.54 (Sep 08)
Compare YoY results and compute EPS for yourself based on this downtrend...

In view of diversified lines of business engaged by the company in the recent times, will your analysis hold good for computing the profitability in quarters ahead?
May be you are finding the glass half empty while others are observing it half full....

The Baltic Dry index has redued to 830 now and traditionally it moves up during the november-febuary period. Given that most of Mercator Lines` contracts are long term, the reduction in Baltic impacts it only to the extent of 30-40% spot contracts and this to my mind has already been factored in the current price.
The stock markets factor in the future prie and sooner than later they will start factoring the fact that more of MLLs future earnings will come from the dredging and coal mining; thereby negating the impact of low freight rates.
I think there is little chance of the EPS to go to 2.5 in the next 2 quarters. It could be more around 3.5 per quarter taking the annual EPS could be 17-18 and next yr they could end up with an EPS of 24-25.
I think at CMP, MLL is very attractively priced and could have a significant upside left.

Believe me, invest/buy & wait for 3 years.
I cant explain in full detail. You can google for all the information about Mercator Lines.
Also, please note that in the past 1 week, 3 brokerages have given a BUY call on Mercator.
Nobody is selling now.
The only people who sold out are the foreign investors who desperately needed money.
People who were waiting for 15-20 levels will keep waiting throughout their life. But 25-35 (may be more than that) is a very good price to get into Mercator lines.
But Caution: If sensex goes to 6000 levels then this stock can`t stay tall. It will move with the market.
Thanks,
SandPM

10 Nov 2008, 1915 hrs IST, Darshan Mehta & Swati Murarka
MUMBAI: After US and Europe, it was China`s turn to announce a rescue package of its own. The Asian giant has announced a 4 trillion Yuan (~$570
billion) package to fund projects in infrastructure, housing, reconstruction. This is the latest in a series of steps which have included rate cuts and changes in the tax structure.
From being an export driven economy, the planners are trying to create domestic drivers now. The resulting boost to infrastructure could help prop commodity prices. Around the world, firms in sectors such as mining, steel, cement and shipping could gain.
The amount will be spent over the next two years to finance programs in 10 major areas, such as low-income housing, infrastructure and post earthquake reconstruction. Financial measures such as farm subsidies, increasing pension funds, cutting corporate taxes, increasing bank credit and raising financial support to maintain growth are also a part of the plan.
Unlike the US and European rescue packages, this plan aims to support specific infrastructure projects and mandate new lending rather than strengthen balance sheets of banks.
China has been the major producer and consumer of commodities almost 40 per cent of global cement, steel and coal is consumed over there. Demand for these commodities could increase, reversing a downward trend in prices over the past few months.
Iron ore exporter Sesa Goa should be a gainer as about one-third of its production is exported to China. Stronger steel prices should benefit companies such as Tata Steel and JSW.
Steel and other metal stocks were amongst the biggest gainers in the bourses on Monday, with Tata Steel up 13 per cent and Hindalco up 11 per cent.
Apart from steel, power demand should also increase, which should push the coal trade. China consumes almost 40 per cent of world`s entire coal production and turned a net importer last year. As iron ore and coal account for most of dry bulk trade, shipping companies such as GE Shipping and Mercator Lines could also benefit.
