It is unfortunate the Co. cannot retain its due share of profits which, at least in part, can be ploughed back for expansion/modernisation and even rewarding some deserving employees to provide motivation. Quite possibly, this may lead to discovery of new oil deposits, more efficient exploitation of this natural resource. Raising oil price wud cut wasteful consumption in quite a few areas, e.g. running jeeps in elections (including students\\\\` unions\\\\`), long caravans of political leaders, etc. Long safari races cud be banned. Subsidised kerosine hardly reaches poor at susidised rate and a large part gets diverted to black market (it is difficult to imagine a water tight system to check this). Govt. shud stop this punitive measure as far as ONGC is concerned. ...

RS Sharma, Chairman, ONGC , said that as of now the subsidy burden of Rs 38,500 crore is borne by ONGC for FY09. The Chaturvedi Committee on subsidy burden is ready with the report and he hopes to see some changes in that. He said that based on estimates and subsidy burden the company expects earnings to remain firm.

Instead of making 5464 crores of profit, ONGC and think about reducing the petrol & diesel costs in india. Stupid money-minded companies.

ONGC is to come out with Q1FY09 numbers. According to CNBC-TV18 estimates, its net profit is expected to go up 18.5% to Rs 5465 crore from Rs 4610 crore YoY.
