Jun 20, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- HDOCF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- , June 20 (PTI) Chemicals and fertilisers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said caustic soda production in state-owned Hindustan Organic Chemicals (HOCL) will be increased to 60,000 tonnes per annum from 16,000 tonnes now.

"We have plans to increase caustic soda production in HOCL to 20,000 tonnes next year and subsequently to 60,000 tonnes per annum," Paswan told reporters after recommissioning of the caustic soda production line of the company here.

HOCL started caustic soda production in its Rasayani plant in 1997 but discontinued in 2000 as it became unviable due to higher cost of production compared to its peers in the field.

In association with a Japanese firm, HOCL has upgraded the technology with an investment of Rs 25 crore.

"Recommissioning of the caustic soda plant at this juncture is expected to generate considerable revenue to improve the overall viability of the Rasayani unit," he said.

Paswan said there is enough demand in Raigard itself to consume the entire caustic soda production in HOCL at present.

HOCL also plans to put up a 60MW power plant in the facility, but would go for 20 MW initially.

"This will be a gas-based power plant. We have already started discussions with GAIL for supply of gas to fuel that power plant. Power generation will be started in the next one and a half years," HOCL's Chairman and Managing Director A Didolkar said.
