What Is Record date for Bonus n Dividend?

It is OK as far as the dividend is concerned.
For bonus or rights the companies will announce a fresh record date.Until then the shareholder should retain his holding to become eligible for the rights or bonus.
If he sells the shares after the ex-dividend rate, he can get the dividend only. The bonus or right proposals get passed at the subcequent date when the AGM is conducted. Then only the company can announce the record date for the right or bonus proposed.

Once a stock becomes ex-dividend, one can sell it and still enjoy the dividend. In other words once the record date is over, the existing owner enjoy the right to dividend/bonus/right entitlement.

Tomorrow is ex-dividend day, if one sells the stock tomorrow or during the book closure period would the person remain entitled for the dividend ? If so, what you say could be very right in re-entry point of view.

Dear stkstudent,
Post the bonus issue... GAIL should be available at 250 rs.
My hunch tells me that we can book profits now and enter once the bonus issue is over..
Just my two cents worth wisdom...

No. Do not panic. There is no business news justifying such sharp correction. Maybe, there is some problem/delay in bonus issue. This is the safest heaven in Indian equity market. The company is doing well and has kept its record of rewarding with high dividends - No negatives. Maybe, just a profit-booking by a few short-term investors/traders, who picked up the stock well during past few days. Hold, at least till it reaches 470-500 levels....

No. Do not make any panic selling. This is one of the safest heavens in equity market. No business news justifying such sharp correction. Maybe, some problem or delay in bonus issue or profit booking by traders who lifted the share for the past some time. So, do not panic. Hold, at least till it reaches 470-500 levels....

Book closure for dividend is 23/08 to 04/09/08, I do not think if any record date for bonus has been announced yet.
