Index futures for top European share benchmarks pointed to a weak open on Friday, after disappointing US earnings reported after Wall Street's closing bell weighed on Asian stock markets.

DJ Euro Stoxx 50 futures were down 0.3 per cent, while futures for Germany's DAX 0.3 per cent and for France's CAC were down 0.5 per cent.

Investor focus now shifts to results from Citigroup due later in the session for more direction about the health of the global banking sector, which has been battered by a credit crisis
