Many people who have fitted Chinese tyres and driven their vehicles on expressways at high speed have come to grief as these tyres have given away at speeds above 90-100 kmph. Ex-Army man Tukaram Omble was a casualty of the Mumbai attacks, giving his life to ensure the survival of his men and the capture of the sole, surviving gunman, Ajmal Kasab.

Omble was on duty on the night of the attacks and was ordered into position on Marine Drive, following the attack on the popular Leopold Café nearby. Minutes after taking up his position, he and his team engaged the terrorists, who were attempting to make their escape in a hijacked car. Omble reportedly gave chase to them on his motorcycle, armed with only a lahti.

As the attackers approached a barricade, Omble maneuvered his motorcycle to force the attacker to swerve and hit the dividers. With the terrorists distracted, Omble charged them down and attempted to wrestle Kasab`s weapon from him. During the struggle, Kasab managed to fire of several rounds which struck Omble in the abdomen. Collapsing, Omble used his body as a shield to prevent his team being shot. He managed to hold onto the gun and bought enough time for his colleagues to kill the other terrorist in the car and capture Kasab alive, thereby saving their lives and the lives of countless others.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India`s highest peacetime gallantry award for his services to the nation.

Discerning a dramatic shift in the world`s economic balance of power, a US think tank has projected that by 2050 India would become one of the three largest economies of the world with the US and China.

Growing at a projected rate of 6.19 percent between 2009 and 2050, India would grow most rapidly among the G-20 group of world`s leading economies the making Indian economy 97 percent as large that of the US in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), two experts at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace wrote.

In an article on `The G-20 in 2050`, in the November 2009 issue of International Economic Bulletin of the think tank they noted that in dollar terms, India`s GDP is expected to increase by 16 times from the current $1.1 trillion to $17.8 trillion by 2050.

Shimla, Oct 13 (IANS) Pakistan doesn`t deserve `half the importance` it was being given in India, Rahul Gandhi said Tuesday while stressing that the two countries could not be compared.

`We are giving too much importance to Pakistan. It is just a small piece of land. India can`t be compared with Pakistan,` Gandhi told reporters here.

`Pakistan`s internal issues do affect us, but we are giving too much time and importance to Pakistan in our minds. To my mind, it deserves not half the importance we are giving it.

`If you see, the attitude of the world has changed towards Pakistan. It`s not a one day job. It`s a long process. India has created pressure (on it) and the entire world is putting pressure on Pakistan. Certain issues related to Pakistan have to be managed, which is already being done. We are on a comfortable position. There is no comparison between India and Pakistan.`

Taking a dig at opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said: `It has 1,000 year old ideology. They are just talking about Jinnah (Pakistan`s founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah), which is history now. I can`t think about Jinnah even for five seconds... not for one second.

`The BJP`s `India Shining` slogan was outrightly rejected during the 2004 general elections. India was shining only in urban areas and that too within the elite class.`
