Hi.
Looking at the charts on 8 aug 2008 there was a clear indication of bearishness that was abt to start. Looking at the length of the rally in the counter it is necessary that we be bearish as we had started seen signs of exhaustion as on 8 aug 2008 . At times we get false exhaustion signals and also false exhaustion terminations. In such cases it is always advisable to exit the stock if you had made profits.
Also that with air travels getting dearer due to fuel cost we may see it impacting, hence the bearishness was suggested.
But now the charts are suggesting a remarkable bull run waiting to happen. Because we see bear rallies getting smaller and bull rallies getting larger. With the recent bull rally that has started at
Rs 462.4 swallowing the most recent bear rally from 510 to 462.4 the market suggests an intermediate bull run again. But when the price falls below 485 the suggestion that the intemediate bull run would continue for a remarkable length will be nullified and we may see great falls. But any breach of 534 on the higher side is suggestive of good profits on the long side. One must have strict stop losses at 485 levels to play it smart with this stock.

Why this sudden bullishness in this stock?
Brussels Airlines & JA expand coperatiion
Posted by :

Brussels Airlines and India’s Jet Airways have been cooperating as part of a code-sharing agreement for the past year, but the two carriers have now announced that they intend to expand their deal, in order to work together more effectively on a larger number of routes. According to the terms of the new agreement, the two airlines would enter into a code-sharing arrangement on the Brussels to Bangkok route. Passengers interested in flying between these cities should, however, keep in mind that they will be required to catch an onward connection in Delhi, to the Thai capital city. Thanks to this agreement between Brussels Airlines and Jet Airways , catching that connection will be relatively convenient, as the code-share flight from Brussels will arrive in Delhi just in time for passengers to transfer to the Delhi to Bangkok service.
Jet Airways uses Boeing B-737 and Airbus A-330 planes to connect Delhi to Bangkok and now that the code-sharing agreement is in place, each of these flights will bear the “SN” Brussels Airlines code.
Brussels Airlines maintains the legacy of its two predecessors, SN Brussels Airlines and Belgium’s former national carrier, Sabena. As such, the new airline focuses its efforts on Europe and Africa. On short-haul flights, Brussels Airlines offers a choice between no-frills and premium economy service, while full service is provided in all cabins on long-haul routes.

Jet: appreciating through depreciation
Posted by :

Jet Airways has accounted Rs 915.48 crore in its exceptional items due to change in the depreciation method, which has given a healthier picture to its net profit (Rs 143 crore for the June quarter). The company changed its depreciation method from written down value (WDV) to straight line method (SLM) for its narrow body aircraft (NBA) only. In SLM, the rate is charged on the historical cost, while for WDV, it is calculated on the net book value as on date. Ideally, depreciation rate (for both the methods), which is calculated taking into account a fixed period, would result into the same book value for both the methods at the end of the considered period.
However, since SLM constitutes historical price and WDV book value of the asset as of date, there is a higher depreciation rate for WDV and hence lower for SLM. Also, the depreciated amount over the life of the asset is higher in the first few years for WDV, while in case of SLM it is same over the years.
On the other hand, for the latter part of the period considered of a fixed asset, the depreciation amount for WDV would be lower and for SLM it would be higher. This methodology would have been followed in case of Jet Airways, which would result in a comparatively lower depreciation after switching to SLM

Jet Airways reports Q1 net profit

Yeah, if we substract the profits added by reversing depreciation, there are actual losses both on operating level and net level. Strange that today\\\\`s economic times carries two stories: one describng this and one just saying that jet is now profitable. Somethng very fishy. Also when the CFO was being interviewed on one of the TV channels he steadfastly refused to comment on the writeback of the depreciation.
This stock should go down very soon....

Dont start dreaming that early, there has been some accounting procedureal change due to which some gains have come in the accounting but no cash generation as suchy.

The jump was due a change in accounting, so real change in profit won't be as good.
We can't jump to conclusions before we hear some analysts.....
