So better to have a long term coverage (mentally prepare your self it is not your money),since you have the protection
and put the money to work in stocks,bullion,real estate

My experience is little over 2 times on 25 year policy
Since they have many schemes one need to work out
Future value of present investment,you can assume different % ages and calculate,best percentage you can look is 9%(if lucky)
But if you factor the inflation,you may see some surprise!!!
The only advantage of insurance is the risk coverage and not efficient
in returns
But investment in diversified Equity can be mind boggling over a period of 20/25 years
Classical example is your husbands investment in reliance,titan and many other good companies in the 90s
even after indexing for inflation and potential interest that could have been earned,The returns on equity is very huge
I found 2 things with phenomenal returns

But let me try to explain why? to best of my ability
Humans are created with 5 senses,for a very important purpose
can go in to that later
the 5 senses help us to feel,see,smell,hear,taste
When an animal is killed we can see that and feel the pain and also hear the pain full cry of the animal
But with plants we don`t feel the same or see the visible pain etc
If we assume plant eating is also bad,then the creation would have taken care of it by making us to feel the pain when we pluck it,but that is not so
But it is individual choice to veg or non veg
some for reasons of health prefer veg food

GV, You have any clue about jeevan dhara policies.. The moment i visit an insurance office i feel depressed.. their offices have a suicidal air about them isnt it? Those ledgers with papers fading and some old computer ticking away and exeuctives sleeping... gosh it gives me the creeps when i enter their offices. I feel both of us can redeem all these LIC policies and invest the money in stockmarkets long term.. see what a sale going on... why should we keep LIC policies running when market is offering such a nice choice.. LOL... what we can do is redeem all the policies and then buy just one policy for a huge sum assured and pay slowly from now for 20 years LOL utilizing the redemption money from old policies for stockmarkets....
