IT firms bullish on pharma outsourcing.
Hari Singh hadn’t imagined he would get a job offer from a software firm. The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) graduate will soon be joining the Mumbai-based IT company (TCS BPO) as a senior process associate in the clinical data management division.
Clinical research institutes such as Clinical Research Education & Management Academy (Crema) and Institute of Clinical Research India (ICRI) have had IT biggies like TCS, Cognizant, HCL, Accenture, iGate etc coming to their doorsteps with job offers at a time when hiring is slow in the IT sector.
In fact, pharma outsourcing has not only remained immune to the economic slowdown but is actually growing.
Outsourcing of technology-intensive activities to IT firms helps companies reduce costs as well as the time-to-market by 20-30%, said Sairamkumar. According to a study by management consulting firm McKinsey & Co, global pharma companies will spend -1.5 billion for drug trials in India in the next 3-4 years, up from the current 0 million.
“This means more outsourcing opportunity for IT firms. So increased recruitment of clinical research professionals,” said an official from a Bangalore-based IT firm.

The days of Software & Business Process Outsourcing from North America are numbered.
Since 1976 Indian Sub Continent has been donating Navagraha Shathis and Punya to North America. This Punya and Navagraha Shakthis were physically carried in 1997 and North America has in return paid thru Software Outsourcing.
All this was part of a 34 year long operation to establish Hinduism in North America. The operation was completed on Sunday 4th January 2009.
It is now logical that the entire process of Software Outsourcing by North American corporations will be soon be a thing of past.
If I remember correctly Great Godess Annapoorneshwari (Devi Maa) mentioned about Air and Sea link between US and Asia-Africa-Europe land mass might cut off at some point of time.
More details available in Yahoo US message boards for CGI Inc. (NYSE: GIB).

TCS can test Rs 540-570: N Pillai.
Within the sector TCS is one stock which is shaping out a lot better technically from a strength point of view even as compared to Infosys. It is getting better and better. It has moved into a slight weekly buy set up and that is the reason why we have picked up that.
It will be a rally within overall weakness for the sector but that is the best stand out stock as of now for me, so even one could go long in TCS....

TCS eyes tier-II cities for growth.
We are keen on setting up our development centres in locations such as Pune, Nagpur, Gandhinagar, Kochi and Chandigarh. While the centres in Pune and Gandhinagar are expected to be operational by the end of this year, the proposed centres in Chandigarh, Nagpur and Kochi are scheduled for the second phase", S Ramadorai, chief executive officer and managing director, TCS told Business Standard.
"There is ample scope for our operations in tier-II and tier-III locations. Over 70 per cent of the campus recruitment for TCS are conducted at tier-II and tier-III locations", he added. The company is looking at a pool of 7,000-10,000 professionals for running the above centres.
In the overseas market, TCS was looking to establish its strong footprints in geographies such as China, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, West Asia and Africa. TCS had recently announced that it was aiming to ramp up its China headcount to nearly 5,000 in the next five years.

Tata logo will adorn Ferrari`s F1 cars; Ferrari extends deal for TCS to three years.
Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni told DNA that Tata — through Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) — has extended its contract as an official supplier of Scuderia Ferrari.
“The position of the logo will be revealed at the launch of the car. The duration of the agreement is three years,” Colajanni said.
TCS had inked a deal with the Italian team to provide software solutions beginning 2007. But Ferrari cars did not sport the Tata symbol.
That the logo will feature on the cars starting from the season-opening March 2009 Australian Grand Prix is an indication that the scope of the deal has widened. Colajanni, however, refused to divulge details.
Despite repeated attempts, Tata officials could not be reached for comment.
This is not the first time a Tata logo will feature on an F1 car. The business conglomerate was involved in a brand sponsorship with Jordan in 2005 and Williams in 2006. The Williams sponsorship, which reports suggest was around Rs15 crore per annum, consisted of the Tata logo being prominently featured on the nosecone of the car and drivers’ helmets and racing suits.
While details of the Ferrari deal are not known, the 500-million viewership F1 attracts worldwide will give the Tatas a huge platform.

Economic Times: TCS to bag two new large BPO deals, post Citi arm acquisition.
The two possible BPO contracts are potential multimillion multi-year contracts.
Mr Chandrasekaran said the deals would be “noteworthy” if TCS managed to close them.
Through the acquisition of CGSL (Citigroup Global Services Limited), TCS has obtained end-toend financial processing and capability to run core-banking processes. On the currently challenging business environment, Mr Chandrasekaran said client specific problems continued and certain clients were not growing but that other deals were getting closed and the deal pipeline was good. “In this market you should expect pricing pressure but we are being very disciplined about margins,” he said.
