Contrary to what most magazines and brokers say about the shining HDFC Bank story, I hold a contrarian view on the future of this entity. Post-Satyam, Investors need to realize just where all the white elephants of the Indian economy lie. HDFC bank has one huge glaring mishap in its history, which surprisingly is all hush hush - and that is its takeover of the Centurion Bank of punjab. The details of that are still hazy, and only if the intelligent investor analyzes the deal will one realize what the magnitude of the situation is. The non performing assets and debt are vast, and seriously, other than hype carrying the bank forward, I think it`s better to exit positions, and get into PSU Banks like SBI in that sector.You can see the signs of losing investor confidence in the way the share price is slowly but surely eroding to sub 1000 levels time after time- and the day of reckoning will be when it finally admits & announces that it has indeed made a gargantuan mistake. ...

Expected net profit is Rs.605 crores for the quarter ended Dec. 08.
HDFC Bank may touch Rs.1055 / Rs.1095 levels in short term if results come as per expectations.

Religare Hichens Harrison Research has come out with its earning estimates on Banking sector for the quarter ended December 2008. According to the research firm, HDFC Bank`s net interest income, for the quarter ended December 2008, is expected to go up by 40.9% at Rs 20,251 million (Rs 2025.1 crore) on YoY basis....
