There is a new plan "ICICI Pru Health Saver" in market. This is being called as ULIP and which boast of availing tax benefits u/s 80D for the entire amount invested.

Being a ULIP, Because of benefits u/s 80D It looks attractive.

Please analyze this plan and give your expert opinion about it.

Many Thanks for your time.

Dear Ashal, i think you wrongly addressed to me rather to dear pcs. Anyway, i think we should suggest dear raj to avoid STCG tax, which he cannot do with SIP except the first Sip as you mentioned. The only method left is investing lump sum. What is your say?
Thanks

Dear zapper, plz. go thru the post again, the time frame is limited to 1 year only in that case barring the first SIP, all future SIP `ll be considered as STCG at the time of redemption & therefore the Tax `ll be 15.45%.

Thanks

Dear Nasina,

There are two types of gold related funds available in India. The gold exchange traded funds (Gold ETF) invest in gold. They are - Reliance Gold ETF,Gold Benchmark ETF,Quantum Gold,UTI Gold ETF and Kotak Gold ETF. To invest in Godl ETF Funds you can do only through a demat account.
There are funds who invest in stocks of gold mining, refining and marketing companies abroad. The DSPML World Gold Fund delivered 4.55% (As on 06 Jan 2009) returns since its launch and another is AIG World Gold Fund which has not yet completed a year. Both these funds are new so its difficult to analyse on the basis of their past performance.

Dear Mayekar,

Having to many ECS transaction does not incur bank charges, i think there is a limit on the number of ECS transaction one can do ?

The mutual funds investment are for longer term, so doing Sliptting SIP in a month, may not be needed, In my case, i have atleast one SIP happening a week and according to me that should be ok.

On SBI Contra fund, I would advise you to continue.
Reasons:
a) It is one of the STAR fund of a good fund house - SBI, secondly performance has been good inspite of maverick fund managers (Sanjay Sinha, Sandeep Sabrawal)leaving SBI, shows that it has a good investment process in place which is not person dependant.
b) Generally, Fund houses focus to get their `star` fund performance back on track, as they can showcase them to build credibility, So my guess is SBI contra will get the same focus.
c) You will average out on your SIP and will have a diversification across fund house.
6) The yearly mgmt expenses will be less as the total market cap is large and the fund is more than 5 years old so the marketing expenses etc have already being covered.

Finally it`s your money and your call !

Thank you wise friends for advice.

the amount is more than 1000 per ECS per fund. i am already doing 4 SIP per month per fund

With 7 funds risk is of having more number of funds... though goal of having 70%+ investment in large cap will be achieved( portfolio re balancing after recent lows)

stopping SIP in contra now will leave me with investments in contra fund for 08 only which will take longer to redeem . Better i continue in 09-10 , average.since i am having spare to invest???

as rightly said, it is difficult to remain in top quartile of performing funds always

thanks

Think, it is good to withdraw money, which the amount put in mutual funds. what is the benefit with the facility? if there is chance withdraw the money, lot of people made unncecessay withdrawals. mainly one thing is remeber that invesment in mutual funds are for longterm, and another thing is, put the excess money in mutual funds(indirectly stock market).every one can think for a while and decide whether it is good or bad?

thanks

Section 80DD has a proviso under which the word `disability` has been defined. Autism is not just being hard of hearing. Purchase of hearing aid, in my opinion, will not come under the definition of severe disability and therefore deduction of cost of hearing aid may not be admissible. Further, being hard of hearing is not such an ailment as to require constant care and support as is the case with mental disability, disorientation etc.

(c) disability shall have the meaning assigned to it in clause (i) of section 2 87 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 (1 of 1996) 88[and includes autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disability referred to in clauses (a), (c) and (h) of section 2 of the National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999 (44 of 1999)];...

Dear Raj,

I would like to add to what dear ashal has mentioned that Bank F.D`s and Gilt/Income or Debt funds are taxable whereas Eq. Arbitrage Funds are tax free if kept for 1 yr. You will get approx. 8-9% returns per year in eq. arbitrage funds.
