Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged an order for power equipment worth Rs 26.91 billion from Maharashtra government`s electricity generating arm, Mahagenco, reports agency sources.

The equipment comprising boilers, turbines and generators are meant for the power plant at Chandrapur in eastern Maharashtra, where Mahagenco is setting up two units each with a capacity of 500 mw.

Mahagenco had gone for international competitive bidding for the order. However, BHEL was the only company that submitted the bid.

The commercial generation of power from one of the two units is scheduled to start from December 2011 while the other facility will begin functioning from March 2012.

Mahagenco has also floated a tender few days ago for power equipment at three sites, Parli, Paras and Bhusaval, with a capacity of 250 mw each
