Government may impose a 25 per cent cess on big diesel cars and charge bulk users other than railways and state transport corporations Rs 22 a litre more for diesel as part of a dual fuel pricing policy.
"Big car owners do not deserve subsidised diesel. We want them to pay market price but it will be difficult to ask petrol pumps to charge them higher than other vehicles. So it is being debated if a 25 per cent cess on the car price may be imposed on big cars," a top Petroleum Ministry official said.
This is part of a dual diesel pricing proposal the ministry is preparing for the Cabinet, he said. "Diesel to industrial users other than railways and state transport departments will be sold at market price of Rs 57 a litre."
The idea is to limit sale of subsidised diesel to transport and agriculture sectors only," he said, adding the Petroleum Ministry was holding consultations with various stakeholders and will move a Cabinet note this month.
While the cess on big diesel cars would give about Rs 150 crore additional revenues annually, charging bulk users higher price would reduce loss of state retailers Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum by Rs 14,000-15,000 crore.
Diesel demand in April-July had grown by 18 per cent, with bulk of the growth coming from industrial users like power plants.(FE)

Aiming to check the menace of fake Indian currency notes, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is creating a national data bank of such notes to trace their origin. The moves comes after the recent seizure of fake Indian currency notes having a face value of around Rs eight crore.
We are developing a national data bank of fake currency notes so that it helps in source identification. It will help us trace the origin of the fake notes and the areas in which it has been circulated.

The UPA government is considering a proposal to go beyond the Right to Information Act (RTI) by posting all but strategic information in the public domain. While the RTI is a tool for citizens to extract information from the government, the new system would give information without the public asking for it.

It is pathitic situation of Indian citizens when our own citizens in Bihar and assam are facing from floods and not even food materials to reach them and starriving with hungry, the shiva sena taking a big issue of jayabachhan s apology. At this juncture is it necessary. why the people of Maharashtra should not thing about themselves and position of our neighborung states. instead of wasting times like pretty issue which is not a national issue they can concentrate the development of the state and make efforts to uplift their own people. As long as people supports politicians they will be in the upper hand and people will be in downtraden stage....
