Yes, NCC is high beta. It continues to oscillate between Rs 150 and Rs 180 endless number of times. On hindsight, if I sold my entire holding everytime it reached Rs 180 in the last 8-9 months, and bought back an equivalent number of stocks when it fell back to Rs 150, number of NCC stocks in my portfolio might have been 50-75% more than what it is now. ...

Even I was wondering. After a fabulous result, I expected this stock to show some resilience. Welspun Gujarat is now at 18% below its 52 week high of Rs 296. I think one of the reasons is because the company has significant US operations, and there is quite some doubt that remains on US recovery. I would have bought some more at this level, but first of level I am a bit circumspect and secondly I don`t have much cash as of today. ...

In case you want to diversify further, you can look at Unity Infraprojects or Ahluwalia Contracts. They are similar sized companies but Ahluwalia has a P/E of about 14 and Unity about 10, reasons of course are obvious, Unity has a higher leveraged balance sheet, and may need some equity dilution to address this issue. Which will erode EPS to an extent. At the same time, if it can reduce its interest cost, its NPM will improve a lot, at the operating level it is a slightly better company than Ahluwalia. I`d recommend a diversification across Era Infra (apart from its high growth, you must have noticed that it is also low beta), Nagarjuna Construction (with order book size, traction, delivery record, management quality, diversification of order book it is probably the best among the big five construction pure -play: NCC, IVRCL, HCC, Gammon, Simplex) and Unity Infraprojects (alternative: ahluwalia). Don`t worry shilac.... this is a good strong stock.. it may come down more but it has strength to bounce back... look its last few quarterly results…they are maintaining their growth rate and growth target.. when market corrects, all stock will come down.. stay with patience if you already have the stock… otherwise it is good buy now....

I do not know about FEMA violations.. can you post any link on this? I thought the promoters of this company is trust-worthy... I do not think it is because of the US exposure, in fact, the US subsidiary is doing very well and it added 40 Cr to the bottomline in Q3. The company looks very attractively valued at this point...good strong order books, improving margins, leadership position in many segments, high growth.
I m going to stay invested for a longer term and see what happens .. the stock may touch 400+ in a year`s time if the economic recovery continues....

thanks for the info.. Right now, I do not want to enter high beta plays like NCC. I am planning to look into few smaller companies like Ahluwalia/Unity and Pratibha....

do not know why this stock is tanking... it has been the worst performing stock in my portfolio ...currently sitting with huge losses. do not know why... i guess it will be good in the longer term.....

goldentip, I could not agree more. In fact, I have been looking to pick up NCC around 140-145 levels. In this space, Era is the best pick followed by NCC...

revenues in line at 107 Cr but margins under pressure. profit of 20 Cr.. very good but I was expecting better...

Era is not in the same league as gayatri,pratibha etc. those are much smaller companies. it is in the same league as IVRCL,NAGARJUNA but having much better growth, much better margins and much better cash flows and it is available at a significant discount to all of these. This is by far the best pick in the midcap infra space...
