This is arguably the toughest time perhaps in the history of the global financial markets and indeed ours. While it is important to formulate effective policies to combat the crisis, it is eqaully important to TIME them correctly. Last evening the RBI announced yet another CRR cut in the course of 1 week by 100 basis points. While the effort is laudable, I feel the impact is already lost/neutralised as the Dow Jones has fallen by a killing 733 points! The prudent thing to do would have been to allow the markets to open today (with a massive gap down for sure), let it find its own level and then make the breaking news announcement, say around mid-day. The effect would then have been quite magical. The markets would have rallied back, atleast for a day or two ! However in the present situation, I feel we may have completely lost the advantage, which means almost a death-knell (merely calling it pain is hugely understating) for us investors ! ...
