Meanwhile, four companies, including Edelweiss Capital and Goldman Sachs are in the race to buy out the bank from PNB Gilts, which was the first primary dealer to be listed on the stock exchanges.
Source close to the development said that the deal is expected at the book value, which is Rs 40 per share. The company has a paid-up capital of Rs 135 crore and reserves of Rs 392 crore. “The deal is expected at Rs 40-45 a share. This would value the company around Rs 550-650 crore, The company’s share closed at Rs 23.50 on Tuesday

Dear vikiitd,It\\`s based on PNB Gilts announcing that divestment process has been initiated. Subsequently, Enam Securities have invited Expression of Interest(EOI)from interested parties for 74% strategic sale in a primary dealer (obviously PNB Gilts)till 14th August 2008. Yesterdays, Business Standard has reported that four EOIs have been submitted including that of Edelweiss Capital & Goldman Sachs and deal is likely to be finalised around Rs.40-45. Boarders are welcome to correct or add the information as given above. Cheers !!!!!

Do you mean to imply that from the height of 227 at 12:40 it slipped superfast to close where it did? Some error somewhere. Are you really tslking of Sterling Bio?

Sterling Biotech has touched a 52-week high of Rs 231.40. At 12:40 pm, the share was quoting at Rs 227.40, up Rs 9.55, or 4.38%. It was trading with volumes of 157,536 shares. Yesterday the share closed up 5.34% or Rs 11.05 at Rs 217.85.
