1:30 pm : Stocks are taking a breather after making their way to session highs. That has left the major indices to move sideways.

The drift has kept this session`s broad based gains intact, though. Six of the 10 major sectors are up by 1% or more -- financials continue to lag on a relative basis as they trade with a mere 0.1% gain.

Treasuries have had a quiet session. In turn, the benchmark 10-year Note is essentially flat. That has left its yield at 3.45%.DJ30 +98.62 NASDAQ +21.17 SP500 +9.35 NASDAQ Adv/Vol/Dec 1795/1.11 bln/802 NYSE Adv/Vol/Dec 2243/507 mln/682

Sensex maturing near 16700 would support my argument that market usually corrects after doubling. Ratio of 200% can be seen even for all the first rallies coming out of bear phases :

- After a 24-month bear phase during 1986-88, Sensex doubled from 390 to 798 and went into sideways consolidation for about a year before moving further up.

- After a 13-month bear phase during 1992-93, Sensex doubled from 1980 to 4643 and went into sideways consolidation for about four years before IT bubble happened in 2000.

- After a 39-month bear phase during 2000-03, Sensex doubled from 2904 to 6250 and saw a quick 33% cut before resuming the bull phase further.

Remember, 16700 is about twice the value of Oct’08 low of 7697 or ‘Mar low of 8047.

19 Nov 2009 20:39

I find contradictions everywhere, some instances :

1. Why Cars w/o roads ?

2. Why Aaloo Chips at the cost of poor farmer and the Common Citizen ?

3. Political Parties Rise and Fall, We have incidents of, tho, as per News paper reports,
a. about jaylalitha ?

b. About Laloo , who gave the slogan, jahan bhi hoga laloo whaan paogey aloo, where has it gone, a poor man`s food is available at exorbitant level, may be not for we elites, but is is not true for all those, who have left there villages, enticed by the propoganda, which "Talk of Lucarative Ice Cream" ?

b(ii) lalu took the undesired credit for turning Indian Railways into profitability ?

3. Dr. MS in his first budget speach, said that benefits will percolate down, but I see the opposite, as "(ICECREAM CHEAPER ROTI (BREAD) (THAN CEREALS and STAPLE FOOD)" and Now Potatoe Chips Cheaper than Potatoes (though in comparative/illusary sense)?

4. What foresight, we buying gold, at such high levels ?

5. We had the Foreign Currency reserves Earlier, may be for past decade, then why instead of improving our backbone, I mean agriculture, or in the alternative, if we thought, consumergoods were good, then why did we not build the infrastructure, i.e. ROADS FOR CAR or POWER for Electrical/Electronic Goods, did WE NOT PUT THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE ?

MANY MORE, and boarders out here will call me vague, ...............many more may come, ..........

Rain Water Harvesting Mandatory for New building
From November 1 rain water harvesting will be mandatory for new buildings. The recent amendment of the BWSSB Act that’s made rain water harvesting mandatory for new and bigger old buildings could bring about a change. Provided, citizens understand the law, get the system installed and also trained in handling it.

People need professional help to design a system complying with the law. They also need trained plumbers and masons as well as money to invest in the structure. Some plumbers and masons well versed in this are listed on the BWSSB website.

Rain water if captured can generate water equivalent to 3000 MLD, almost double the current demand. It can also reduce the massive problem of flooding in Bangalore to a great extent, say experts.Depending on design, orientation and catchment area of the house, you could pay between Rs 8,000 and Rs 75,000 to set up the system.

If you don’t have an RWH unit, your water and sanitary connections could be cut. However, there are rewards for installing one. After an assessment by the BWSSB in January 2010, five houses will be selected and rewarded Rs 10,000 each.

NEW TWIST

RIL offers to withdraw directors’ affidavits on MoU

But Co Wants RNRL To Withdraw Its Assertion That RIL Board Had Seen And Approved The MoU

Sanjay K Singh NEW DELHI

RELIANCE Industries (RIL ) on Friday offered to withdraw affidavits filed by seven of its directors, claiming they were unaware of the contents of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between members of the Ambani family in 2005 for supply of gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin, only if Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) agreed to withdraw an assertion in its affidavit that the RIL board had seen and approved the MoU.
’Please ignore the affidavits (of seven independent RIL directors), if he is willing to withdraw the paragraph from the SLP (Special Leave Petition) of RNRL,’ said RIL counsel Harish Salve to a bench comprising Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice P Sathasivam.
Both the affidavits filed by the RIL directors and the assertion in RNRL’s affidavit were not presented before the Bombay HC. Consequently Ram Jethmalani, the lawyer for RNRL, had wanted to cross-examine the RIL directors. Mr Salve then said he would withdraw the affidavits if RNRL dropped its assertion. It was not clear at the end of the day’s proceedings if in fact the RIL directors would withdraw their affidavits.
Mr Salve also told the apex court that the post office fixed deposits scheme would have been a better option for RIL to invest its money rather than in the Krishna-Godavari Block, if the company is forced to sell the gas to RNRL at US$ 2.34 per unit.
He presented a chart to the court, outlining the estimated shares of the government and the contractor (RIL ) on the basis of the approved development plan on KG D6 Block.
According to the chart, if the 80 mmscmd of gas were to be sold at the price of US$ 2.34 per unit, it will fetch US$ 21.35 billion. After subtracting capital expenditure of US$ 9.41 billion and an operating expenditure of US$ 1.59 billion, the net cashflow will be US$ 10.35 billion.
Of this, the profit share of the contractor will be US$ 7.81 billion and the government’s take at US$ 3.84 billion. If from the profit share of the contractor or RIL , interest payment of US$ 4.08 billion and income tax of US$ 1.30 billion is deducted, the net cashflow will come down to US$ 2.43 billion.
If on the other hand, the gas were to be sold at the governmentapproved price of US$ 4.20 per unit, the contractor take in the profit petroleum will be US$ 16.28 billion and the government’s share at US$ 8.44 billion.
After including US$ 2.60 billion in the form of royalty and US$ 4.25 income tax, the cashflow to the government will be US$ 15.29 billion. After deducting US$ 4 billion for interest payment and US$ 4.25 billion as income tax, the net cashflow to the contractor will come down to US$ 7.95 billion, it said.

No KG basin hearing on Friday: SC

The Supreme Court on Friday decided to hear KG basin case on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only, reports Sanjay Singh in New Delhi. The court will not hear the case on Friday on a request made by RNRL counsel Ram Jethmalani, who said he did wish to devote Friday to ‘profit-making’, presumably a reference to fees. The court, earlier, had agreed to hear it on Friday for two hours in the afternoon.
