Balaji Telefilms Ltd. had informed the Exchange that SGL Entertainment Limited (part of the Star Group) had issued a notice for the termination, with effect from November 10, 2008, of sourcing of content and telecasting of the program "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" (Kyunki) produced by the Company. The Company has now informed the Exchange that "Our company being of the view that the termination is in breach of contractual obligations owed by the Star Group, filed a petition in the Honble Bombay High Court". With reference to the earlier annoucement dated on October 20, 2008, regarding SGL Entertainment Ltd (part of the Star Group) had issued a notice for the termination, with effect from November 10, 2008, of sourcing of content and telecasting of the program "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" (Kyunki) produced by the Company, Balaji Telefilms Ltd has now informed BSE that, the Company being of the view that the termination is in breach of contractual obligations owed by the Star Group, filed a petition in the Honble Bombay High Court inter alia seeking ad interim relief restraining the Star Group from acting pursuant to the aforementioned notice for termination pending resolution of the dispute through arbitration in the manner agreed between the Company and the Star Group. Petition filed by the Company was dismissed by a single Judge of the Bombay High Court on November 03, 2008. An appeal filed against that order was dismissed by a Division Bench of the Bombay High Court on November 07, 2008.
Consequently, Kyunki is no longer telecast on the television channel "Star Plus" and SGL Entertainment Ltd has ceased procuring content for Kyunki with effect from November 10, 2008.
Kyunki was one of the 6 programs produced by the Company (which continues to produce the other 5 programs) for the Star Group and generated significant revenues for the Company. The notice for termination pertains only to Kyunki and does not affect the other programs produced by the Company for the Star Group. Company also produces 2 programs for 9X and one for Zee TV and is also producing 2 programs that will be launched on NDTV Imagine in this quarter.
The Company continues to pursue legal remedies available to it in respect of the termination....
