What is the Immediate reading on Ashok Leyland

I am holding at 40. Mr. Thacker pointed out on 24 sep 09, that Ashok Leyland can outperform. I am not convinced. Can any of my wise fellow boarder give some well studied comment on this counter. Should it be worthwhile to hold or exiting this now would be prudent instead of losses.

U r absolutely correct.

jessywadehraNO chance of it reaching 50. Its a misadventure for the stock to hover in the 40s territory and possibly this is due to manipulation in the stock for forthcoming QIP issue. At 36+ PE ratio, this stock is highly overvalued. Almost twice its peers. With bad monsoons and plant related operations issues including labour trouble, this stock is not worth more than 25.. that too factoring in recovery of economy and sustenance of business due to JNURM order....

Hi Vamsikgummadi,
Thanks for sharing your views too. The point I am trying to make is that one has to be proactive in this market. Yesterdays markets were different. Things change in a fraction of a second, news spread at near lightning speeds giving rise to immense volatility in the current markets. If one spots a pattern developing, then one has to be cautious rather than realizing the mistakes after the fact. Good luck....

Ashok Leyland on way to Bankruptcy?

Hi Streetking,
Based on your data and some other information I had I want to bring to your notice the following points:
1. Yes, the company is facing some difficulties but not to the extent of filing bankruptcy (like GM did).
2. The company is still making profits where as GM posted losses before filing for bankruptcy.
3. Ashok Leyland faced setbacks recently due to economic recession and I agree the net profits decreased.
4. When profits decrease a company in general will go for some activities like
a. Machinery (Will initially cost but in course of time it is money saver due to efficiency)
b. Expansion (so as to increase market base and productivity)
...
So a lot of amount is being spent in these areas...
5. The company is facing a bit trouble due the irregular monsoon...but the good news is the company is getting into some joint ventures with Nissan and others.
So in my view the stock is faily priced and has strong support at 36 and if it breaks it has support at 32 levels and I am sure the company is not going to file for backruptcy and as per the charts you can see 44/- ( target) and you can see it as per the current charting.
For GM there are many factors for it to file for bankrupcy like:
1. It wanted to dissolve worker unions from which it was facing lot of troubles. Without filing for bankruptcy it might be difficult to dissolve the trade unions (as what I have heard...because I live in Detroit, MI).
2. It wanted to rewrite some of the insurance policies and retirement benifits which would benifit the company once it comes out of bankruptcy.
3. Unavilability of liquid cash to pay to its employees.
3. Abrupt closure of credit markets created a downward spiral in vehicle sales.
So I personally prefer to stay invested in the stock and beleive in the strength of this stock. The short term target I see is 44/-.
Wish you good luck.
Thanks,
Vamsi....
