YEAR EVENTS
1993 - The Company achieved all the targets set under the Memorandum
Understanding (MOU) signed with the Government of India
for the 5
successive year.
- Korba - the first biggest power station of the Country
situated
in Bilaspur district of M. P.
- Unit-I was synchronised in March, 1992.
- Due to the disturbed conditions in Russia the supply of
balance
parts for the other units had been very adversely
affected. As a
result, despite best efforts, the second unit could not
be
commissioned in 1992-93 and it will now be commissioned
in
1993-94.
- Unit-I was commissioned during 1991-92. Two more units
were
added during 1992-93. These units are under
stabilisation.
- The construction work on fourth unit was substantially
affected
due to non-performance of some of the contractors and
the Unit is
now envisaged to be commissioned during early 1994-95.
- The first gas turbine was synchronised in 1991-92, the
remaining
three gas turbines and two (2) steam turbines were
commissioned
in the financial year 1992-93.
- Generation at NTPC's coal and gas based power stations
was
affected severely due to coal and gas shortages and also
due to
grid restrictions.
- Karnataka Government has entered into an understanding
with M/s.
Cogentrix, USA for establishing Mangalore TPP.
- NTPC has always been the trail blazer in
acquiring/assimilating
and developing the latest state-of-the-art technologies
for
ensuring high level of operational performance of its
plants in
terms of availability, reliability, efficiency and
pollution
control.
- NTPC has been recognised as the first utility to build
in-house
Company by bodies like BIS, SEI and the industry.
- During the year, NTPC initiated studies like ecological
impact
assessment through satellite imageries, detailed
geohydrological
studies around ash pond of various projects.
- An agreement was signed with M/s. Ballarpur Industries
Ltd.
(BILT) for supply of dryfly ash at the rate of about
250T
per day from Badarpur Thermal Power Plant for the
manufacture of
aerated autoclaved concrete products.
- NTPC has entered the era of ON-line Information
environment
through INGRESS RDBMS.
- NTPC has made its successful way into exciting Hi-tech
field of
MULTIMEDIA by installing first Multimedia Workstation.
- A new company, Spectrum Power Generation Ltd. Jointly
promoted
by Spectrum Technologies, USA, Jaya Food Industries,
Hyderabad
and NTPC, to implement the project has been formed.
- The Power Purchase Agreement, Promoters' Agreement and
Fuel
Supply Agreement etc. have been signed.
- The Award of Honour from the National Safety Council (UK)
have
been won by NTPC as a high performing organisation in
the area of
Safety.
- NTPC organised special Family Welfare Camps in its
projects/stations, primarily for the benefit of nearby
population, where attractive monetary and non-monetary
incentives
were offered by NTPC in addition to the incentive
offered by the
State Govt.
- The NTPC Rehabilitation & Resettlement Policy was
modified with
an objective to ensure that the project affected persons
improve
or at least regain their existing standard of living at
the time
of acquisition of land.
- The NTPC Pavilions at Ichchapur, in West Bengal and Patna
in
Bihar, where energy conservation and environment were the
main
themes, received the first and second prizes respectively
for
best display.
- The employees of the company have got Prime Minister's
Shram
Awards. This is the eighth consecutive year that the
company is
getting the award.
- NTPC has also bagged the Company Standardization Award
for 1992
from Institute of Standards Engineers, an affiliated
professional
body of Bureau of Indian Standards.
1994 - A tripartite agreement was signed during the year between
NTPC,
UPSEB and GAIL for direct power supply to GAIL.
- NTPC made a Public Issue of Bonds for Rs. 150 crores in
December
'93 which was oversubscribed by more than four times.
- During the year 1993-94, Rihand STPP (2x500 MW)
generation was
affected due to problem of vibration in the generation of
Unit-I
necessitating it's shut down for 55 days resulting in
loss of
generation of about 660 MUs.
- An agreement for financial assistance for Faridabad
Combined
Cycle Gas Based Power Project (400 MW) has been singed
with OECF,
Japan.
- NTPC and Oman Oil Company Ltd (OOC) have entered into a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote a joint
stock public
limited company with the intent of both parties along
with other
associates to subscribe to equity to set up gas based
power
projects under the latest guidelines issued by the Govt.
of
India for private sector participation in power
generation and
distribution.
- During the year, NTPC bagged the prestigious Jawaharlal
Nehru
Memorial National Award for effective implementation of
Pollution Control Methods, among the entire Indian Power
Sector.
- MOUs have been signed with M/s. Nagarjuna Litecrete Ltd.
and M/s.
Ria-Shelcon for setting up ash based products
manufacturing units
with ash from Ramagundam and Farakka Power Stations.
- NTPC's representative was a member of the Task Force set
up by
Govt. of India for Standardisation of various Bid
Documents for
the procurement of work, equipment & services against
World Bank
financing.
- During the year the National Safety award from the
Government of
India was conferred on Singrauli STPS (Runners Up Award)
and
Farakka STPP (Consolation Award).
- British Safety Council has also awarded the prestigious
National
Safety Award to six Projects of NTPC at Badarpur,
Korba,
Ramagundam , BALCO, Anta and Kawas.
- NTPC became a member of the newly constituted Power
Sports
Control Board during the year and successfully organised
the
First Inter PSU Cricket Tournament at Singrauli, NTPC
teams won
the team championships in Cricket, Volleyball, Hockey,
Table
Tennis and Chess and were the runners up in Bridge.
- A news magazine Vidyut Swar in Hindi has been launched
to
encourage the forum for budding talents.
2000 - Maharashtra State Electricity Board has signed separate power
purchase agreement with the company for the total power
supply of
1,345 mw from Kawas-II, Gandhar-II, Vindhyachal-II and
Siptat
power stations.
- The capacity of the Company at Talcher in Orissa is
expanding
from 1,000 mw to 2,000 mw.
- The Company has signed a memorandum of understanding
with the
Ministry of Power for generating 9,4000 million units
of
electricity during the current financial year.
- The Company is likely to be the joint venture partner
of
newly-formed SAIL Power Supply Company Ltd, a
wholly-owned
subsidiary of Steel Authority of India Ltd.
- The Company will sign a joint venture agreement to pick
up 26 per
cent stake in the Gujarat Pipapav Liquefied Natural Gas
Ltd's
Rs 2,500 crore LNG terminal.
- The Company has proposed to pick up a majority stake in
Nathpa
Jakhri Power Corporation following shortfall in equity
contribution by the centre and the state government for
the 1500
mw hydel project in Himachal Pradesh.
- The Company is getting into wind power segment,
starting
preliminary work on two projects in Karnataka and Tamil
Nadu each
with a capacity of 20 MW.
- NTPC will set up a Rs 8,000-crore LNG fuelled power
plant in
Mangalore.
- The Company has established a 2000MW gas-based power
plant near
Mangalore.
- The Company will double its generation capacity in the
southern
region to 6,900 mw by the end of the Tenth Plan.
- The Company is switching over to higher capacity plant
size of
660 MW and new generation power plant technology by
adopting
supercritical parameters.
- Shhri Raghavan Pillai Parameswaran Nair of Korba
Station of the Company
is the only recepient of the Shram Ratna Award. This
is the second consecutive
year that NTPC has won the Shram Ratna award.
- The Company has signed an agreement with State Bank of
Patiala to raise a long-term
loan of Rs 150 crores for part-financing its ongoing
power generation capacity
expansion programme.
- The Company have bagged the `British Safety Council
Awards' for the year 1999 in
recognition and commendation of services rendered for
the cause of safety in the projects.
The award winning stations are Ramagundam, Farakka,
Rihand, Vindhyachal, Unchahar,
Dadri, Talcher Kaniha, Talcher Thermal, Anta, Jhanor
Gandhar and NTPC-managed
Badarpur Station.
- Mr. C.P. Jain has taken over as Chairman and Managing
Director of the Company.
- State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation has
agreed to pick up a minority
10 per cent stake in Coal India Ltd's proposed venture
in Bihar to supply coal to the
thermal power giant's four greenfield power projects
in the state.
- NTPC and ONGC are forming a new joint venture company
for setting up gas residue-based
power projects.
- Moody's Investors Services has assigned a `BA2'
long-term foreign currency issuer
rating to the company.
- The Company has launched a drive to recover arrears
from the electricity boards of
Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Daman and
Diu and Dadra Nagarhaveli.
- The Company has developed a unique financial tool to
ensure payment of the past dues.
- The state-run National Thermal Power Corporation has
offered to set up a coal-based
power project in Maharashtra.
2001 - The Workers of the Company observed a one-day strike, the
strike call has been given
by the Centre of India Trade Union.
- The Company has signed a memorandum of understanding
with the government to
generate 1,21,000 million units of electricity during
2001-2002.
- The indian Oil Corporation and National Thermal Power
Corporation have signed a
memorandum of understanding to set up petro-fuel power
plants in India.
- :The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has
informed the government that it is not interested in taking over the
Enron-promoted Dabhol Power Project.
-The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning
to install new power plants in its western region, which could be of
1000 mw or more.
2003
-'Best Employer' survey conducted by Business Today and Hewitt
Associates rates National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) as the
best employer among publlic sector undertakings for 2002-03

-The 1000-MW Simhadri thermal power plant of the NTPC here has got
the ISO-9001 certification for quality management, ISO-14001 for

2007

Shri. K B Dubey has taken over as Director (Projects) of the Company
w.e.f. January 12, 2007.
-National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has forayed into an
pact with Coal India Ltd (CIL) to build and run coal blocks and
integrated coal based power plants.
-NTPC Ltd has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the
Ministry of Power.
-NTPC signs 0mn loan agreement with KfW
-NTPC Ltd and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) on May 11,
forayed into an equal joint venture for development, operation and
maintenance of coal blocks.

- Ntpc Limited has has appointed Shri Rajesh Verma, Joint Secretary

(Government nominee) on the Board of NTPC Limited.
-National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has informed that a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed on July 29, 2007
between the Company and Anna University, Chennai (AUC) to provide a
platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration to promote Research
and Development.
-Ntpc Limited has informed that As per order No. 8/6/2007 - TH. I
dated 30th August , 2007 of the Ministry of Power, Government of
India and in pursuance of Article 41 of the Articles of Association
of NTPC Limited, the President has appointed Shri V.P. Joy, Joint
Secretary, Ministry of Power as Part- time Director (Government
nominee) on the Board of NTPC Limited, with effect from August 30,
2007.
-National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd
(BHEL) for forming a Joint Venture Company for carrying out
Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) activities in the
