The Company was incorporated in the state of Maharashtra as Chemiequip Private Limited on June 21, 1960 under the Companies Act, 1956. It was converted into a Public Limited Company on July 5, 1979 and a Certificate of Change of Name was obtained on July 16, 1979. The Company is engaged in the manufacture of Disperse Dyes, Reactive Dyes, Vinyl Sulphone Reactive Dyes and Dye Intermediates at its plants at Ambernath and Tarapur. The main dyestuffs manufactured by the Company are: - Cyanuric ChlorIde Reactive Dyes consisting of Hot, Cold HE and ME brand used for cotton fibres, cotton cloth dyeing and printing; - Vinyl Sulphone Reactive Dyes; - Anthraquinine, Azo based and Nitrocil group of Disperse Dyes used for dyeing synthetic fibres/chemical fibres. The Company manufactures most of its own requirement of intermediates such as H.Acid, Tobias Acid, Gamma Acid, G.Salt, N. Methyl, J.Acid, intermediates of the Beta Naphthol Group, Anthraquinone Group and Napthalene intermediates. Chemiequip Limited faced problems in the eighties on account of labour unrest at its Ambernath factory, strong competition from SSI units and the textile mills strike in the early eighties. The Company suffered losses and was referred to the BIFR in 1987. BIFR finalised the package in 1989 with effect from 1987. | |
