
Minisha Lamba is unhappy with the budget. There has been no provision for tax deductions to self-employed professionals. "It is saddening since these professionals fall in the highest tax slabs," she says.
The increase in the short-term capital gain tax is also not a good thing, she says: "Retail investors will suffer because it is them who help drive the newfound India Inc."
In fact, when we caught up with her before the Budget was read out, she said, "I hope that that very unclear, ill defined, murky area called service tax gets abolished."
With the finance minister not doing anything about it, she is certainly not pleased.
She is happy about the new tax slabs and exemption rate for women. Duty raise on non-filter cigarettes, she feels, will help keep rural India healthy.
